For some reason I have found my thoughts returning time and again to what it means to have planets conjoining the Ascendant, especially in terms of our health and well-being. I have Mars-Mercury conjoining the Ascendant from the twelfth house side.
Having Mars, Scorpio’s ruler, conjoined my Scorpio rising pretty much blessed me with a strong constitution and for the most part, I have been pretty healthy most of my life. If there is a weak point in my system it is my tendency to worry too much and my over-active imagination – Mercury in the twelfth exactly inconjunct Uranus in high strung Gemini.
There is a very good reason I do my best to stay focused in the moment and strive always for emotional neutrality. Physical activity (using Mars) always helps of course, as does playing with my dog. When I lived in San Diego, walking/running on the beach was sanity for me because I do not do well in large urban areas. But my favorite way to maintain is reading books, especially those with lively characters in interesting situations – classic escapist literature for a twelfth house Mercury.
One of the things I have been speculating about is the affect other planets conjoining the Ascendant. If it is the Moon, do the emotions powerfully affect the body? Does the Sun bless one with vitality? What about lovely Venus? I’m more interested in the personal planets for the purposes of this discussion. If anyone is interested, we can have a separate discussion about outer planets on the Ascendant . . .

Though it’s not a planet at all (let alone an inner), I was always curious about having the North Node conjunct the AC. I assume it must have some kind of effect, but being a point rather than a planet, the idea was always vague to me. So if you ever do discus the outer planets in conjunction with the AC, I’d be interested in that point being included too
Hi Anon,
In general a planet conjunct the North Node keeps drawing attention to the qualities and issues represented by the Node.
The tricky part about having the North Node conjunct the ASC is it means the South Node conjoins the DES, emphasizing the need to find a balance between self & other. Do you find people who embody the qualities of the sign on your DES showing up in your life on a regular basis? How do you feel around them?
Just out of curiosity, do those types of individuals strongly impact your sense of well-being? Maybe cause stress related problems?
just asking . . . diane~
My AC is Aries, so my DC is Libra. (Would I be correct in saying that that particular sign combo amps up the “self & other” balance issue even more?) My mother is a Libra, as well as my grandmother and one of my close friends. Those are really the only main ones; though I will say that the one thing I notice about my Libra friend is that our relationship is very balanced–I always feel that person gives back just as much as I give…I never feel like it’s a one-sided friendship, and I’ve always liked that.
I’d say the only Libra that stresses me out is my mom
That might just be a mother thing, though…and our moons are conjunct (right there with my own Saturn, as well).
I’ve always felt like a loner, though (and overall I like it that way). I think I read once about the south node having a saturn-like quality–and if it’s not completely preventing a romantic relationship, then it is certainly delaying it. But I am kinda at the point in my life where I don’t really mind, and honestly if I WAS in a relationship…sometimes I watch my friends and family accommodate to their significant others and I don’t think I could do it!

LOL! I’m guessing it’s a mother thing, especially with Saturn present!
Otherwise your description of your experiences and observations fits quite well with the North Node in Aries conjoining the ASC. Learning about operating as an independent agent is a very important part of the Aries North Node.

I have also been curious about this subject because I have my Libra South Node in wide conjunct to my ascendant and my North Node is exactly conjunct my Aries Moon on the descendant…and I find that I am always trying to find the balance between myself and other. Maintaining my individuality within relationships is a struggle for me.
My boyfriend’s Aries ASC conjunct my NN/Moon has really brought this issue to my awareness. His personality, him just being himself, is constantly challenging me to grow towards this Aries NN and be an individual, be myself, concentrate on myself. It’s been difficult, especially in the beginning of our relationship, but now that I’m starting to get the hang of it, it’s been incredibly amazing, a wonderful feeling!
My Cancer Midheaven/Mercury conjunction is conjunct his North Node, and he’s said I challenge him in this same way:-)
Hi Autumn,

Now this is a wonderful description of how the NN/Moon conjunct the ASC can manifest in a relationship. My Aries husband has encouraged my Libra self to be more independent and DO things since we met many years ago.
Thanks for sharing this!!

hey, there, neith, you went and moved the blog while I was busy this winter! This is what I get for not checking in more often.
I had a funny day yesterday…I was called into HR and told that someone I used to work with had complained to them that I “touched” her even after she asked me not to. This is a person from my old land group and my jaw just dropped. It seems I tapped her on the shoulder and gently pulled her hair at the last technical talk to let her know we were behind her. Now it’s in my permanent HR record! You know me — I’m NOT a touchy-feely person. (eh, with Scorpio moon/mars what do you expect?) But I will tap someone or pat them on the head if I consider them a friend. Don’t like to hug. But she never came to me and told me privately that she didn’t like it. She may have said, “don’t pull my hair” at the talk, but I didn’t hear her. Anyway, you know Scorpios…once you sting them, they don’t ever forget. I hate this stuff, it makes me feel sick. funny things, is she’s a Libra. same birthday as my son. Anyway, I went in early this morning and quietly told her I would never bother her again since I no longer trust her or like her. Then I walked away which makes me rather proud of me — cuz you know Pisces/Scorpio can throw some major hissy fits. This kind of childishness is beyond ridiculous.
However, I had a good day away from work. Got the little saplings out of my flowerbeds and the tree guy did a great job. woo hoo. I’ve been making a vegetable garden this spring and it’s almost time for planting out. Onions/garlic/lettuce/and peas are well underway. Tomatoes/eggplant are almost ready to be transplanted. And I’m going to do the Indian thing with corn/beans/squash. The herb garden has been going crazy even with the cold. I swear the cilantro grows six inches a day. Now, if I could just train the outdoor kitty not to use the grow boxes as a litter box.
And all on the day after my birthday. what’s up with the sky? what caused this silly thing?
!!!Casey!!!
You have been popping into my thoughts lately and I was wondering what you were up to these days living with Uranus transiting your Sun. Peeked at your Solar Return for 2010 and saw your Sun conjoined Uranus & Mercury w/Gemini rising. Your friends and family may be surprised at how clearly you make your opinions known. Nothing quite like a Uranus influence for standing up for one’s self either. Us laid-back types can knock the socks off people under that particular influence as your now ex-friend found out.

“Cold” is our 20 degree mornings!
Spring is coming in early here this year and my broccoli, cabbage & cauliflower starts are about two weeks away from setting out. Won’t start tomatoes & pepper plants until early April for transplanting outdoors in late May. By that time your neck of the woods will be downright HOT!
Good luck with convincing your kitty not to use the grow boxes as a litter box. Got any netting to cover them with????
So glad you found me!

I’ve got North Node in Libra too which is square my Asc in Cap. No planets conjunct any of those points. Nearest to my Asc is Saturn 14 degrees away so out of orb.
Wouldn’t mind finding out what it means to have Uranus, ruler of Aquarius, in my opposite sign of Leo, opposing my Sun.
Hey Rossa,
Wouldn’t mind finding out what it means to have Uranus, ruler of Aquarius, in my opposite sign of Leo, opposing my Sun.
I can see this aspect starting out as manifesting in the form of highly independent, unpredictable dramatic types in your life and gradually morphing over the years into your sense of autonomy deepening as an individual.
Also have noticed those w/Uranus in Leo aspecting personal planets & Angles tend to have a lot of drama going on in their lives. Much more than Uranus in other signs.

Story of my life, Diane! It has certainly been a wild rollercoaster ride with plenty of ups and downs. I’m definitely independent and now certain of who I am and enjoying my life for what it is rather than trying to make it something else. Long may it continue. Live long and prosper as a certain Vulcan may say…lol!
Now it’s a NN discussion! Interesting because my boyfriend has his NN tightly conjunct his AC (from12th house side).
But on topic….I have Mars in Cancer rising from 1st house side. I honestly don’t know what to say about it. I think I come across as positive and forceful, even cocky, to others sometimes. But it’s a guess. I have also been blessed with health (and scant patience), but I’ll have to do some more thinking to really come up with what this planet-to-angle conjunction means to me.
Thanks for your feedback, Jessica!
Mars in Cancer on the ASC would be less direct than say Mars in a fire sign. Crabs can move sideways as easily as straight ahead.
Say, how is the Aries ingress treating you? Keeping you busy busy?

I do have the Moon conjunct the Ascendant in Aries. I wouldn’t say that it leads to any psychosomatic symptoms, as some interpretations might be, but it’s true that emotions can be so overwhelming that the whole ‘existing’ in the world is affected by it. Since I’ve always been this way, I can’t tell if other people can control this better than me or if they’re the same. haha
Escapism and some lone time is definitely my way of keeping things relatively sane.
Hey DM!!

Moon on the twelfth house side did you say?!
