Today Venus moves into Scorpio out of her home sign of Libra, and she is putting away her tasteful selection of accessories and subtle makeup palate for now, knowing she will still want them handy because Venus will return to Libra briefly the second half of November.
Scorpio is not a sign Venus is comfortable in because she does love to play the lighthearted flirt and Scorpio is anything but lighthearted. Intense, loyal almost to a fault and tenacious . . . those are its virtues. The commitment Libra often delicately sidesteps in relationships is something Scorpio is willing to make and keep.
At this time Venus will make her transition from evening star to morning star, going from rising far behind the Sun to rising ahead of the Sun while she is in Scorpio. This event occurs roughly every 18 months, with a brief period when Venus is not visible in the sky . . . a journey into the Dark so to speak, very appropriate this time.
For those of us with strong Libra signatures in our charts, this next couple of months can be challenging but we will get help from a rather unusual source during this Venus retrograde. Pluto, Scorpio’s ruler, will form supportive, informative sextiles to Venus on September 12, November 1 and December 8 at 3-4 degrees. What we have is a great opportunity to get a good look at those areas where our romantic expectations are out of line with reality and make the necessary adjustments. The key, of course, is to be as honest as possible in our relationship with ourselves and with our significant others. Keep in mind Pluto ALWAYS makes sure we have plenty of opportunities to get the message . . . burying one’s head in the sand where Pluto is concerned just means your backside is exposed and vulnerable to a good, swift kick!
Don’t forget Mars will be joining Venus in Scorpio on September 14, continuing their pas de deux. Those who are uncomfortable with passion and willingness to deeply commit will likely head for the hills, at least until Mars hits freewheeling Sagittarius October 28.
Just for the record, the last time Venus was retrograde in Scorpio was October 10, 2002 to November 21, 2002. If you can recall what was going in your life at that time, you may get some idea about what to expect this time around. I had just started a new job working in the back room in my employer’s home; dealing with a huge backlog of un-filed papers including bits and pieces of house plans all sitting around in piles on every available surface including the floor. Talk about performing a necessary service.
How Venus’s extended passage through Scorpio will affect you depends on where Scorpio lies in your chart and whether or not you have planets in that sign. For me this event will take place completely within my twelfth house, so I may not fully display the results until Venus crosses my Ascendant just after the first of the year . . . then it will be watch out, World!!
