I was looking through old family photo albums and realized how my Leo granddad had been the one who made sure we went camping and fishing up in the hills. I was his shadow whenever he was around because he was fun. He and I both had/have our Suns at 29 degrees – his was in Leo and mine in Libra. And he had Jupiter in Leo too, widely conjunct his Sun/South Node. He was one of those rare individuals who always seemed to know how to have a good time and invite others to share it.
He and I both shared Sun/Uranus aspects too – his Uranus at 28° Scorpio was square to his Sun (and conjunct my Ascendant) and I have a Sun/Uranus trine. He was noted for taking off to the hills to go hunting or fishing whenever he darn well felt like it. But he was very patient teaching me how to fish for trout in small mountain creeks with a fly rod much taller than I.
I have many happy memories of traipsing along behind him, climbing through dense thickets of brush to get to that perfect deep hole in the stream, and doing my best to keep my fly rod from hanging up on low branches. Then he and I would clean the fish and I would help him fry the trout in butter over an open fire. Looking back I now realize he never patronized us or made my sister and I feel less than capable just because we were girls. This was in the 50’s, long before feminism and women’s lib were the issues of the day. To say I was lucky is an understatement. My granddad also had his Moon in Aquarius so he was way ahead of his times.

Lucky indeed. I wish I knew my grandparents’ birth data…
Wonderful photos! They’re so clear. Who took them?? Yes, very lucky you were.
Lucky indeed. I wish I knew my grandparents’ birth data…I’m just working from dates and birth place, no birth times. Except for the Moon & maybe Mercury, the other planets are good. What the birth time gives is the wheel . . .You know, it just dawned on me now, looking back how egalitarian my granddad was (at least this one – my father’s father. my mom’s dad was a pain in the A**!!)I was more of a “boy” than my brother when we were kids. Much better at camping & fishing & cooking over a campfire. My dad wasn’t hung up on gender related roles & tasks either. That may be related to the enormous amount of work to be done and every hand was needed.
Wonderful photos! They’re so clear. Who took them?? My dad was the one behind the camera. He developed all these too in a little darkroom he built upstairs in our house. He just got himself a very, very nice Nikon digital camera with lots of nifty features including an “anti-jitter” feature I’d love to have. We have a strong artistic “eye” that runs in our family.
The photos are priceless! The last one is fantastic. And the haircuts!
I have a Leo grandfather too. But he’s not the camping type. He’s more on the artistic side. My greatest memories of him (from my childhood, because he’s still alive and well) are sitting in his knees pretending he was a horse and him pulling my milk teeth out with a string (which I mention on my latest post).Great post Neith.
Love the photos!Love the story!Love you!

Yes, my dad is a good photographer. My mother was always cutting my bangs too short and it annoyed the crap out of me! My greatest memories of him (from my childhood, because he’s still alive and well) are sitting in his knees pretending he was a horse What a joy for a little Sagittarius, yes?!
Love the photos!Love the story!Love you!
{{{{{Jane}}}}}} Thank you, sweetheart!
Isn’t it often the way that the link between grandparent and grandchild can be so much freer and open than that between parent and child. Lovely photos, Neith
Isn’t it often the way that the link between grandparent and grandchild can be so much freer and open than that between parent and child. If it’s good, it’s very good and one of the better reasons for living near extended family. My father’s parents lived very close by most of my younger years and we did lots of things with them. I look forward to spending time with my grand-kids too.Looking at the astrology of this type of relationship is very interesting too.
Wow. Wow wow wow. Thank you for this…I just love it. Yearning for earth, yearning for earth…
