Full Moon in Aquarius, August 13, 2011

The back story of this Full Moon at 20° 41′ Aquarius on 13 August 2011, 11:58 AM PDT can be read in the balance of the elements and modes – fire and air in the fixed signs predominate. In other words, we may be treated to plenty of pretty, inspirational speeches dedicated to convincing us of one particular point of view.

Venus and Mercury in Leo are basking in a conjunction with the Leo Sun. The correct astrological term is “combust” meaning both planets are within 3 to 8 degrees of the Sun. The power of the Leo Sun suggests those two planets lose their separate identities and become subsumed by the Sun making objectivity almost impossible. Outstandingly beautiful and charismatic though.

The Sun in Leo and Moon in Aquarius create a delightful Mystic Rectangle with the Moon’s Nodes in Gemini and Sagittarius. If you love good, deep philosophical discussions about the mysteries of Life and why we are here, then you will enjoy this Full Moon immensely. If you are more interested in feeding your family and paying the rent, all these high-minded discussions will be more irritating than anything else. However, we may be able to use all this energy in practical ways via Jupiter in earthy Taurus because Jupiter rules the Sagittarius North Node. Taurus is really big on practical application after all.

Mercury (rules Gemini South Node) in Leo is now being opposed by Neptune back in Aquarius. Is this an improvement from the opposition in Virgo and Pisces, or just a different set of illusions? I go with the latter. The main difference is with Leo and Aquarius you get glittering dramatic illusions and endless diatribes about whose vision for the betterment of the collective is the best. **sigh**

A couple of bright spots in this lunation chart are Mars in Cancer sextile Jupiter in Taurus and Venus in Leo widely sextile Saturn in Libra. We may see these friendly sextiles at work helping ease tensions in our personal relationships because even small gestures of affection will produce big results. Both aspects are great for helping us remember why being friends with our lovers is so important. Nice!

A more sobering pattern is Mars in Cancer completing a T-Square with the Uranus in Aries-Pluto in Capricorn square. Uranus is the apex planet squaring an opposition between Mars and Pluto. Mars in Cancer may not be as aggressive as Mars in Aries but tromp on this Mars’s toes and he will vigorously defend himself. If it was just Mars getting angry and lashing out it would be one thing but add in Pluto and Uranus and the potential for a sustained violent reaction is possible. Uranus in Aries is hair-triggered and Pluto in Capricorn can hold a grudge like nobody’s business. Stepping back, staying neutral, avoiding specific outcomes and expectations are all in our best interests. FYI – Mars will exactly square Uranus on 9 August and exactly oppose Pluto on 10 August.

My vote for biggest trouble maker is the Mercury-Neptune opposition because it can turn what you feel to be a small, innocuous comment into what another considers a full fledged attack on their strongly held beliefs or vice versa. If you have a 28°-29° Mercury, particularly in the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius), you are the most vulnerable to “foot in mouth” disease not only on this Full Moon but in the week leading up to it.

Work extra hard at practicing kindness and being forbearing of both your own and others foibles and remember we’re all only human! No raining on the parade of those who are able to relax and enjoy the bright Leo season either.

On a personal note: The lunar axis squares my Scorpio Mars-Mercury-Ascendant so I am placing myself on notice to watch my tongue, though I’m sure a certain amount of sharpness may filter through anyway. Probably just as well that Mars-Mercury conjunction is on the quiet side of the Ascendant or my mouth could get me into trouble. *cheeky grin*

The problematical Mercury-Neptune opposition gently aspects my 29 Libra Sun and a likely outcome is feeling more idealistic and less pragmatic than usual. Good thing I have plenty to do to keep me grounded or I would drift off into la la land! Saturn moving one step closer to Moon helps keep me firmly based in reality too. Darn.

This new moon will hit my natal Mars at 19 deg. Aquarius in my 3H, guess I’d better watch my tongue as well…

LOL! Mars in the third is inclined to be outspoken too . . . :D

I’m going with the “glass is half-full” ideology for this full moon! It will be very tightly conjunct my Venus (and asteroid Juno) and Sun in the 8th house. (And other than opposing my progressed Moon, it doesn’t make any other aspects in my chart.)

So I’m holding out for positive stuff! Because that Mars/Uranus/Pluto kerfuffle will make a cardinal grand cross with my natal MC/IC axis, Chiron, Mars & Uranus! So during the time THAT’S exact, I will be hiding under the bed in a makeshift bunker with a week’s worth of supplies, and I’m not coming out.

Until the full moon, when I WILL have something wonderful happen dammit! :)

      Hey Merryweather!

Nice! Love getting “kisses” to the Sun & Venus!

Whoa! Totally understandable! Be careful and move slowly with all the Mars-Uranus action. Classic accident prone stuff. :P

My paper… is due… on the 10th. My other four essays are due on the 11th. I can do this. And I could also use some of that Aquarius energy!

That part about relaxing– I haven’t felt this relaxed in a long, long, long, long, LONG time. I’m typically high-energy, and exercise loads, but can become stressed or nerved by certain things for sure. So I’m really appreciating whatever’s going on in the cosmos that’s helping me feel awesome.

    XO,
    Deb

      Hey Deb!

You can do it! All that fabulous Leo help in your 9th house will work for you. Saturn in Libra sextile your Mars is very supportive for setting a course and sticking to it.

So I’m really appreciating whatever’s going on in the cosmos that’s helping me feel awesome.

heh . . . just make the most of it! :D

      Welcome Nada,

Sorry, I didn’t know where else to put this, but thanks for the heads up on the Merriman piece, as I was really interested on a financial astrologer’s view on what happened. His 2015 window is fascinating as the Neptune/Pluto sextile orb of the ‘boom’ time starts tightening up in the early 20′s, and gets within 2-3 degrees by the time Pluto enters Aquarius in 2024. Ceres has been in aspect this entire time, as has BML and the surprise with the ‘panic’ of it all, but not really, is Vesta :/ Anyway, thanks sgain, fabulous Sunday morning reading xoxoxoxo

Ray Merriman is a fantastic financial astrologer and I’ve been reading his weekly articles for over ten years and enjoy him very much. He has an early Cappy Sun and has been getting first hand experience with the cardinal action this past year.

My Natal Moon is at 21 degrees of Leo in the 3rd house. I am a Pisces sun, Gemini rising. Should this moon severly impact me since its excatly opposite to the degree?
    Thanks,
    Danni

      Welcome DANNI,

My Natal Moon is at 21 degrees of Leo in the 3rd house. I am a Pisces sun, Gemini rising. Should this moon severly impact me since its excatly opposite to the degree?

This means the Sun and Venus will be conjoining your Moon – both very upbeat influences – so my guess is you will like this Full Moon. Of course other natal aspects to your Leo Moon are important too. If you are planning on spending time with close friends this weekend, that could work out well for you.

  • [...] Financially, it has been a roller coaster ride as those in the position of power, play with people’s budgets and lives. One day, someone will explain to me how this last week had any justification beyond the underlying vibe of the asteroids and their tales of bias, slander and falsehoods…….but anyway. Thanks to Diane’s pointing out of his article, for those of you who are interested in the financial astrology twist on matters, I would highly recommend keeping an eye  Merriman’s Market Analysis. On the recommendation note, I will also take the time to point you in the direction of Diane’s lunar piece. [...]
