I’m starting to look forward to the periods when Mercury is retrograde because the pace of our fast forward life often slows down some. How in the world did we end up feeling driven to go faster and faster?
It sure wasn’t fixed sign types like Taurus folk who promoted it. They vastly prefer to amble along at their own speed. Leo always wants his audience to sit enthralled as long as possible with plenty of encores, and Scorpios just want to be left alone to do what Scorpios do. Hee hee
We can all use the example of our fixed sign friends and take more time to savor our lives instead of rushing frantically from one place to another. The only people I know who really thrive on multi-tasking are those with lots and lots of mutable energy (especially of the Gemini variety), or many Uranus aspects in their charts.
I live my life somewhere in between the high-speed world of instant communications and a laid-back rural life. Here I am writing a post for a blog on the internet while planning on sitting quietly this evening working on a cross-stitch Christmas stocking for my granddaughter. There is wool waiting to be dyed and spun too. Yet I love the internet and all its infinite variety.
There are cabbage and broccoli plants sitting on the porch that were started from seed indoors a few weeks ago that I carry outside during the day and inside at night. They will be ready to transplant this weekend. When they are ready to harvest, I’ll freeze them to eat next winter. All of this takes lots of time and patience. Most people these days just go grab something at a fast food place or the grocery store and never stop to think about how much went into growing and preparing what they eat. I won’t even go into quality, taste, nutrition, etc, etc . . .
This is a roundabout way of saying Mercury retrograde offers something besides annoyances. Could there be a correlation between our modern, tech oriented life and the reason Mercury retrogrades have such a bad reputation for being disruptive? The cows and horses grazing in the pasture aren’t the least bit concerned about what’s going upstairs!
Anybody have some good Mercury retrograde stories for a change of pace?

Here’s a link to the post I wrote on the Full Moon in Scorpio and one to my latest thoughts on Saturn in synastry. Both of these are on Real Astrologers, the website I share with Pat Paquette.
When I was writing my Full Moon post I noted a Yod with Pluto at the apex and Mercury sextile the South Node but passed on attempting to interpret it. Thankfully Julie Demboski didn’t. Here’s a link to her take on this Yod: When Pluto Points at You: Finger of God
Donna Cunningham offers an interesting and valuable perspective on how to approach Mercury retrogrades without fear and loathing: Mercury Retrograde Projects – Use the Energy to Your Advantage

Peaceful spring morning and the horses are making the most of it.

I like Mercury Retrograde, I was born under one and for some reason I feel more at home. When things get a little snafu’d I shrug my shoulders and move on. No big!
Welcome Adirondack Autumn! We all need to follow your example for handling Mercury Rx. Stressing over things we have no control over is such a waste of time. ha!Other people born with Mercury Rx natally have told me they are more comfortable during Mercury Rx too. Maybe the static lessens . . .
Neith, Thanks for the link! Merc retro is bringing to my attention all those wonderful astrologers I hadn’t (yet) gotten around to adding to my blog list–so thank you for that, too!Best,Julie D
I have such a craving for a garden and planting things. But living in a building the most I can aspire to is to plant in my balcony. I want to grow mushrooms. But I wish I could grow other plants.A calmer pace would be nice. I can do calm.
Hi Julie!! Thanks for stopping by and linking me too. Love all the great info you have put together on Chiron and the other asteroids. There are so many great astrologers blogging these days, it’s tough to know where to start reading. Big, big change from just a few years ago.
Hey DM!!A calmer pace would be nice. I can do calm.
LOL! With all your fire?! I'm seriously thinking of taking a whole new position of working with Mercury Rx because I'm sooooo tired of worrying. Maybe the Mercury-Neptune squares (plus squares to Chiron & Jupiter) have finally pushed me too far and in true Scorpio/Pluto fashion, I'm done with that s**t. So look for the new, revised version of neith on Mercury Rx here!!
I promise to keep these monies in circulation to help others.Neith, have you heard of ModestNeeds.org ? Great way to donate to help others who are facing ordinary problems like car repair, dental bills, behind on rent, lost their job, etc. The Modest Needs team researches the applicant’s situation to be sure it’s genuine, and if the person receives public assistance already, that is noted. When enough points are accumulated through donations, the amount needed is not sent to the applicant but to the party that needs to be paid, like the dentist, landlord, etc.http://www.modestneeds.org/
What a great idea, Joe. I especially like the fact the $$ goes directly to the doc, dentist, etc. Makes it a whole simpler for all concerned . . . I seldom underestimate the human capacity for justifying darn near anything. BTW, these are very Capricorn type lessons in how to do charitable with common sense.
“I’m seriously thinking of taking a whole new position of working with Mercury Rx because I’m sooooo tired of worrying.”I don’t think of Merc Rx as negative, just as irritating. It can be a very good thing to have the gears gum up. I find that often the little annoyances that Merc Rx brings turn out to be a blessing in disguise. I use Merc Rx to bring things to the surface. I often reach out to old friends and then I’ll find out a backstory that puts stuff into perspective. The best example happened a few years back when I sought out an old friend so he could help me with some carpentry and all of a sudden he unburdened himself with a story of an old roommate of mine. She and I had ended in very bad terms. Anyway, this old friend ended up telling me that later on it turned out that she was a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic. He proceeded to recount all these stories, one of which was pretty scary given that she was once on the verge of becoming violent. Well! That certainly put her odd behavior in perspective and it made me thankful that she and I only lived together for a couple of months. I always think of Merc Rx as missing a series of buses/trains/etc. on the way to a cruise that might end up sinking. I guess what I’m saying is that Merc Rx gives you perspective and I think that’s good.
