Observations: Good Transits Gone Bad

© Stephanie Pui-Mun Law

One of the biggest drawbacks to checking your transits on sites like astro.com is they can only give small pieces of the puzzle. For instance, you head over to read your current transits and see a real sweetheart like Venus conjoining your Moon today. So you walk out the door knowing all will be great . . . and then your whole day goes to hell in a hand-basket. This leaves you wondering if there is anything to this astrology stuff, doesn’t it? Other people get to enjoy a Venus-Moon transit, why can’t you?

It all comes back to the natal aspects to the planet being transited. There is a world of difference between a natal Moon with lots of sextile and trines to her from other planets and a Moon under siege by harsh aspects. Someone with a Mars-Moon square is not going to be nearly as easy going as another person with Moon trine Mars. If your natal Moon is caught up in a larger pattern like a T-Square with Mars and Uranus, your normal emotional state can be described as abrupt and edgy. Yes, Venus conjoining any one of the planets comprising the T-Square will soften the edges and sweeten your temper but not nearly to the degree it would if those three planets formed a Grand Trine.

If you don’t want to get caught off guard, take some time and study your natal chart. Look for squares, oppositions and inconjuncts to the personal planets in particular. That would be the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars. Those folks with major chart patterns like T-Squares, Grand Crosses and Yods need to learn about the planets involved in those patterns to prepare for those days when transiting planets trigger the patterns. Outer planet stations (when turning retrograde or direct) can mean a transiting planet will land on one degree for weeks . . . like Saturn at 29° Libra is now. This is also a great way to learn more about your natal chart and how it works!

And that’s my astrology lesson for today! :D

my natal neptune is at 29 deg Libra and sun at 22 Libra in my first house. This saturn transit with that jupiter opposition (now fading thankfully) has been intense! not over yet, but feeling better

Saturn has been busy in your first house then . . . seldom a fun time but boy, does it stamp “Responsible” on your forehead! :)

Just wondering w/Neptune in your 1st, if Saturn conj it made you feel like others really see the real you?

What happened to me is that when transiting Pluto was on top of my Neptune bad things got triggered – and this considering that Neptune basically makes one trine with ASC and a natal generational sextile with Pluto. However, natal Pluto is in ‘challenging’ aspects in my chart.
And talking about transiting Saturn at 29 degrees…I have my Solar Return ASC in Libra at 29 degrees with Saturn on top of it (both in solar and transiting, although I don’t know if this is how it should be).

      Hi als,

OK, I should have included the Ascendant in my list even though it’s obviously not a planet. :) The sextile to Pluto could provide the link.

And talking about transiting Saturn at 29 degrees…I have my Solar Return ASC in Libra at 29 degrees with Saturn on top of it (both in solar and transiting, although I don’t know if this is how it should be).

The ASC in Solar Returns is determined by location. If you want to play with this, change your location (reference place) dramatically from where you were on your birthday. BTW, Saturn on the Solar Return ASC usually indicates a year where staying on task is not an option. Good luck!! :D

I must admit I stepped out of the house looking forward to mercury sextile jupiter and heard a discouraging word instead of the good feedback I was hoping for a few days ago. Now I have Virgo rising and generally what positively strokes mercury does the same for me so I felt cheated. Couldn’t see an obvious reason in my chart. Perhaps some minor asteroid was in the mix, I cant tell. Am awaiting the mercury/mars opposition with interest especially since my asc is 17 deg Virgo – yikes!

That Rx Mars in Virgo is 17° today & hopefully once it retreats back into your 12th house it will be less of a nuisance. From the feedback I’ve been getting, this Mars Rx has been very hard on folks like yourself with Virgo Rising. Virgo Rising can be susceptible to stress & strain on the nervous system. Take good care of your self & practice your favorite stress reduction techniques. :)

I can relate on the nervous system stuff. I seem to be much more nervy than I typically am (and that’s saying something), almost picking up free-floating anxiety from everywhere. I’ve been doing a lot of flower essence self-treatment for this– just to take the edge off.

Your Gemini Rising is the likely culprit. Gemini & Virgo, being Mercury ruled, are the more nervy. Since Mercury conjoins my ASC, I get the “twitchies” also. Also take homeopathic remedies for soothing jangled nerves. They work too. :)
