Today in my part of the northern hemisphere it is the Summer Solstice and the longest day of the year. The Sun enters Cancer at 4:09 PM PDT and the days will gradually grow shorter once more. Supporting the Cancer Sun is a gentle, non-intrusive trine to Neptune in Pisces and a free floating Moon in Cancer. Despite the rumblings from the Uranus-Pluto square, we will still be able to see the sweet in our lives as well as the challenges.
Speaking of those challenges, the Solstice chart indicates a full out assault may not be the best approach after all. That is because water and earth are the dominate elements, not fire and air. Uranus in Aries is the sole representative of fire in the chart! A tactful, indirect, non-threatening manner will serve us well over the next six months . . . if we can remember to use it.
All of you Cancer folk with your Suns in the earliest degrees are going to catch a break after two years of feeling batted about by fortune. Whilst you do have the exact Uranus-Pluto square, you also have Neptune soothing your Sun and a helpful sextile between Mars in Virgo and Mercury in Cancer. Sure, Saturn in Libra will be squaring Mercury but that’s not too bad . . . it will help you keep from saying things you may later regret. With Jupiter in Gemini squaring Neptune in Pisces, the chances of speaking out of turn are greatly increased and this aspect will affect the Solar Returns of Cancer Suns born in the first decant. After that the square will have waned enough to be less troublesome.
The best way to check out your Solar Return chart for this year and determine exactly how the Uranus-Pluto square will be affecting it is to go to astro.com. Be sure you have your current location has the reference place. I will also be happy to provide you with a free Solar Return chart (no interpretations . . .). You can send me your birth data and current location using the form on my Personal Reports page.
No matter if you are celebrating the longest day or observing the shortest one, it is always worth celebrating the great cycles. Have a lovely time!

Lovely photo. Do you look more at the Solar return houses being more impacted than the place the planets are transiting?
Hi Kaz!
Do you look more at the Solar return houses being more impacted than the place the planets are transiting?
Good question. A quick review of my SR charts for the past couple of year & I’m inclined to say the SR houses are more important. Of course, if Uranus in Aries is conj the ASC or personal planets, that trumps the house.
Solar Returns are fun to work with but in my experience are more about tone than substance. Uranus in the SR 4th doesn’t mean you will leave your current home. Shoot, when Uranus was transiting my natal 4th, the most we did was an extensive 7 wk bath remodel. Pain in the a** though . . .

Interesting, I must say the unexpected SR position of uranus in the 12th and the transformative pluto in the 9th since my last birthday have been challenging (22/08/69). Admittedly I just find it all so telling. Transit wise pluto is going through my 1st and Uranus the 2nd. I’m reframing my anxiety to anticipation.
Thanks Divine D

Hello Diane !
Thank you for this suggestion. I just looked – Ascendant in Aries and Moon in Taurus – hurrah ! Well, it’s a start
Gorgeous photo – a reminder of nature at it’s best.
Warmest regards to you,
Deirdre
Hi Deirdre!

I believe you will end up being very thankful for the grounding the Taurus Moon gives you. The desire to push one’s boundaries is strong with Aries Rising in the Solar Return.

Hello Diane,
it is a relief that when Uranus was transiting your 4th house you had no unexpected home changes. We just (last year) bought a new house and I ain’t moving out again
I’ve got Uranus transiting my 4th house squaring Pluto on my ASC so I was getting a bit concerned what it all may mean. No point in stressing beforehand I guess.
I also have a question about your reports but I will send you a separate email about that
Thank you
E xx
Hi Ecika!

One thing I’ve noticed about Uranus transits bringing abrupt change is there is often underlying dissatisfaction with the status quo . . . and a Uranus transit can bring this to a head. We more or less had to remodel our bathroom because the house had been rented out for awhile before we bought it & the renters had failed to let the owners know about a water leak. In the process of tearing out the old bathroom floor & ceiling we discovered more water damage than we thought. Uranus was in Pisces at the time. New bathroom is lovely, low maintenance and bigger. Well worth the inconvenience!
One of the biggest challenges with the current Uranus-Pluto square is feeling a loss of control, pitting our need for autonomy against our security needs. Tough, tough place.
xoxoxo diane!
