Observations: Are there upsides to Saturn in Scorpio?

In true Scorpio fashion, I’m ending up going ever deeper into the subject of Saturn in Scorpio and have been thinking about possible upsides to this transit. One of those is the ability to concentrate and stay tightly focused on whatever has captured your attention. The type of transformative experience Scorpio is capable of inspiring almost always requires commitment and focus.

More than other signs, Scorpio can be a double edged sword where virtues morph into drawbacks unless one is very careful. What starts out as the ability to focus can become an obsession consuming far too much of our time and energy. To avoid this we need to establish limits and boundaries before committing ourselves.

Though the house Saturn is transiting can offer clues as to what might grab your attention, it is often transits to the personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars) that offer the best guide. Saturn passed back and forth over my Sun this past year and I have been very good about doing weight bearing exercises to strengthen my bones. This trend will likely continue as Saturn moves through Scorpio since my Mars and Ascendant (both related to the physical body) are in Scorpio . . . a very good thing for a woman in her mid-sixties!

One of the best things about good habit patterns established under a Saturn transit is they really stay with a person. The obvious downside here is it can equally difficult to get rid of bad habits picked up during a Saturn transit, often to avoid pain or evade feeling guilty for some reason or another. Scorpio’s penchant for getting caught up in extreme experiences will need to be closely monitored.

I can see this Saturn’s transits to Mercury honing the ability to go deeper than usual. Saturn-Venus transits, especially with Scorpio involved, are probably going to bring up all our appearance issues and with care, we may be able to get to the basis of those and resolve them. Transits to Mars can open a can of worms regarding the expression of our sexuality . . . it’s not uncommon for people to choose celibacy for a time, take a “time out” as it were.

If you do choose to commit to changing certain behaviors under this transit, be prepared for to persevere because Saturn is really big on delayed gratification. I also recommend investigating the use of affirmations to empower you and Louise Hay is one of the best in this department. Good luck!

By the way, if you are interested in reading what astrologers are saying about Saturn in Scorpio, Mary Plumb of The Mountain Astrologer offers some suggestions in her post Happy Saturn in Scorpio  . . . including one by yours truly!! :D

OH.MY.GOSH. Literally read me up and down front and back! I am definitely dealing with some hardcore obsessive tendencies right now. “Scorpio’s penchant for getting caught up in extreme experiences will need to be closely monitored.” Indeed! I just learned I have Pluto conjunct with Venus. Fun stuff!
    Great post! :D

      Thanks, Veda.Moon!

I just learned I have Pluto conjunct with Venus. Fun stuff!

Indeed, Venus conj Pluto operates like Venus in Scorpio. Intense, rather possessive but very loyal. Problematical if your Sun/Moon are in fire/air signs who prefer a lighter touch. :)

Go Diane! Congrats on the very much deserved professional mention!

Go Louise Hay! I swear by her approaches and use them daily in my life. I started investigating alternative treatments for an intense anxiety issue that popped up during Saturn squaring, conjunction and opposing most of my major personal placements. Her program has helped me to help myself, so it is an obsession I plan on keeping ;) Plus, it was just the encouragement I needed to venture into more natural alternatives regards physical well-being.

Looking back to when Saturn was in Scorpio last time, and it was the time I actually started to believe in myself, separate from the negative maternal connection. Whilst that still had years to evolve and reach its own dramas, I started to value myself more and moved away from the group I was hanging with. I tried to make up for lost time at school (we moved so much in ’81 – 5 schools in one year) and I found a decent’ish guy. I guess I just grew from strength to strength after I learned just how low I could go with Saturn in Libra, and if I wanted to keep on sliding downwards, it would be easy to. It’s not that much different than this time around. Different story lines of course, but a similar cast of characters! I expect good things from myself during this transit!

      Hey Pixie! :D

Love hearing good things about Saturn in Scorpio transits. On the whole, the last time was very good to me too.

Her program has helped me to help myself, so it is an obsession I plan on keeping ;)

I have Louise Hay’s book, “You can heal your life”. Got it years ago and used her affirmation techniques successfully also. The key to making affirmations work is to keep doing them, and doing them, ad infinitum. That’s where Saturn in Scorpio can really come in handy.

      Good for you! :D

    Hello Diane,
Love your blog and articles, tune in regularly, have never left a reply yet but I’m so deflated by saturn in scorpio’s transit that I have to get it off my chest. Having my capricorn sun and mercury in my eighth house I thought I was going to find this transit sort of homely. In the first few days that saturn entered scorpio, I felt great, the fog was lifting, focus and energy returning (I’ve just survived pluto steam-rolling over my sun for the last 3 years – in my eighth!) But alas the fog is revealing all the nasty cracks and faults in my own interior and I’m not ready for this. The fog hid what I didn’t want or need to see. But now it’s there in all it’s ugly glory. Instant transformation is now the only way to live with myself, for I fear standing still will only deepen the cracks, amplify the faults and pull me deeper into the caustic soup of my own emotional turmoil. I’m not happy, Saturn, you old bruiser, be gentle. I know him of old (I’m a capricorn)and the brute is planning to take me with him through Hell’s bowels. Anyone there for company? *Sigh, sigh*

      Welcome Judy M!

{{{{Judy}}}} This is a tough one. I feel for you and can only suggest prioritizing and tackling these issues in small bites. Apply generous doses of kindness and forgive yourself frequently too. Personally I believe most of us make the best choices we can at any given moment & to heap blame on ourselves using 20-20 hindsight can be treacherous.

Give yourself credit for acknowledging those cracks & faults!! :) Many never do . . .

Hey Diane, congrats on the mention at TMA! Saturn’s little reward for your hard work here.

Since Saturn went into Scorpio sextile my Mercury, long under the influence of an opposition from Neptune, it’s like being at the optometrist’s office when she slides the lens into place and everything suddenly comes into focus. (Going for an exam today. :-) ) So, so far so good here! Maybe I can actually put some of Neptune’s influence into use now. Or will this clarity wane when Saturn moves off?? At least Neptune will move away from my Mercury at the end of the year…

Excellent!! :D :D Bet that feels great!

Hard to say . . . maybe you can set some checks & balances in place now to help avoid slipping back into the fog. Neptune! Meh!

What if the last transit was negative. I feel only now I unpacking that time period.

      Hi Debbie!
What if the last transit was negative. I feel only now I unpacking that time period.

Perhaps this time around you will finally lay those issues to rest. Maturity does have its rewards and one of those is perspective. As I suggested to Judy, please be kind & forgiving of the shortcomings of your younger self. :)
