Celebrating Valentine’s Day when the Sun is in the eminently rational air sign of Aquarius is not all that wonderful for love and romance. That’s more of a water sign thing . . . they understand the yearning to merge and form deep emotional connections. In case you’re interested here’s a little history of Valentine’s Day. St. Valentine sounds more like a humanitarian than anything else and that does fit with Aquarius’ ideals.
This year the Aquarius Sun is sextile a dynamic Aries Moon on the big day, Jupiter in Gemini is sextile Uranus in Aries and the planet of lovers, Venus, is in Aquarius. Looks a whole lot better for getting together with friends for some laughs and good conversation than a romantic dinner for two, doesn’t it? If you need to attend a business meeting to discuss stock options, the sky looks great for that also with Saturn sextile Pluto and both planets harmoniously aspecting Mars in Pisces.
The biggest drawback to getting the whole romance thing to work is the semi-sextile between Venus in detached Aquarius and Mars in sweet, subtle Pisces. Venus probably won’t even notice any of Mars’ romantic gestures or hear his sighs of love. Mercury is still widely conjunct Mars in Pisces and it doesn’t go for using a direct approach either. And I hesitate to even mention Venus still being widely squared by Saturn in Scorpio who knows exactly how to take ALL the fun out of life.
Couples who have been together for quite awhile, old married folks and school kids will enjoy this Valentine’s Day much, much more than new lovers or those still hoping to meet their soul mate. Speaking of soul mates, John Townley writes about the Venus-Mars midpoint in The Point of Passion. Another interesting article about the astrology of Valentine’s Day is from Jeff Jawer, Valentine’s Day: Another kind of Love.
If you’re looking for something romantic to read, I can recommend a couple of free ebooks you might enjoy. Of course, these both appeal to my Venus in Sagittarius who likes a large dose of adventure and humor mixed in with the romance. One is a paranormal romance called The Hidden Fire by Elizabeth Hunter and has a contemporary setting, the second is a fantasy, The Emperor’s Edge by Lindsay Buroker. If you don’t have an Amazon Kindle, both books are also available on Smashwords for free too.
