Since Uranus entered Aries in 2010, it has been vigorously promoting change of all kinds, both peaceful and otherwise. One area I’ve noticed increasing change in is the publishing world. The advent of Amazon’s Kindle and other tablet reading devices has changed the way many, many people read. More and more people buy and use these handy little e-readers every day. Naturally the demand for books formatted for reading on them has picked up too.
When Jupiter in Gemini came on the scene last June, the reception of independently published writing improved. Jupiter rules publishing among other things and in Gemini, he has been happily sextile Uranus on and off over the past ten months. I attribute some of the success of the “indie” author to the Jupiter-Uranus sextile. Many readers, myself included, are thrilled to be able to find new reading material for a reasonable price. I’m old enough to remember when you could buy new paperback books for $5.00 and less . . . a typical price range for many independently published ebooks. Indeed there are many, many excellent ebooks available for free, usually as a successful promotional tool.
Uranus in Aries is now poised on the cusp of my fifth house and soon to be exactly trine my natal ninth house Saturn. It is very possible I might put together some small booklets and publish them in ebook format as my own personal experiment in this area. Recently I downloaded a free app called calibre – E-book Management for reformatting some ebooks for my Kindle. It is very simple to reformat straight text documents any way you want though images within the document are far more challenging. As my eyes age it is much more comfortable to read an e-ink screen than a monitor screen and a small, hand-held e-reader is not that different from a regular book.
If you write and are considering going the self-publishing route, I recommend reading what Lindsay Buroker has to say about her experiences as a successful indie author. Her Emperor’s Edge series is doing exceptionally well and she offers the first ebook in the series for free – the Emperor’s edge. Since she was able to quit her day job and support herself with her writing, I’d say she knows what she’s doing.
F.Y.I. if you can find ebooks by your favorite author on Smashwords, please buy them there because the author receives the most money per book there. Support the writer, not the big seller.
By the way, Donna Cunningham has been posting on the effects of Uranus in Aries recently as well. One of these posts is Grabbing some insight into Uranus in Aries. Check the end of the post for more links to Uranus in Aries posts.
