New Moon in Aries

New Moon in Aries

Despite all the “go for it” signals on this New Moon at 09° 59′ Aries on 30 March 2014 11:46 AM PDT, actually achieving liftoff may take some serious effort. Driving the need for action is Uranus in Aries conjunct the luminaries. However both Jupiter in Cancer and Pluto in Capricorn are putting obstacles in the way as both square the New Moon-Uranus stellium.

Usually the Aries New Moon following the equinox (Spring in the northern latitudes, Autumn in the southern) marks the true beginning of the zodiac year when the possibilities seem endless. In recent years it was the Aries New Moon on March 22, 2012 when Mercury and Uranus conjoined the luminaries and we could clearly see our path forward. Now we have all manner of expectations from family (Jupiter in Cancer) and those in authority (Pluto in Capricorn) to contend with. It may seem like everyone and their uncle has a better idea of how to move forward, thwarting our own in the process. The resentment potential is extremely high. This is an excellent time to contemplate the difference between being assertive and being aggressive. A calm, direct, polite manner is far more likely to get positive results than a rude, abusive one.

I like to take a look at what Mars is doing in this chart because Mars rules Aries. At this time Mars is retrograde in diplomatic Libra trine to Venus in Aquarius and exactly semi-sextile to Saturn in Scorpio. What this says to me is a thoughtful, low key approach will produce far, far better results. Mars is definitely not at his best now and inclined towards being passive-aggressive. He is in no shape for an all out attack. Be tactful, kind and gentle with loved ones.

Another thought I had about the Mars-Saturn semi-sextile has to do with the relationship between Libra and Scorpio. Libra rules the seventh house of marriage and Scorpio rules the eighth house of joint finances. If marital spats (Mars in Libra) devolve into divorce proceedings, the resulting settlements could be harsh (Saturn in Scorpio). Both planets being retrograde may mean the whole process can move even more slowly than usual with constant bickering. If it is possible, wait until Mars goes direct on May 19.

The last square between Venus in Aquarius and Saturn in Scorpio is exact the day before the New Moon and is still very much in play. Casual love affairs may turn out to be anything but because one party or the other is far more serious about making a lasting commitment. Make sure you are both on the same page before you dive in.

Mercury and Neptune in Pisces are our best hope for opening hearts and softening rigid, judgmental opinions. Both are semi-sextile the Aries stellium, widely trine Jupiter in Cancer and sextile Pluto in Capricorn. Tolerance and compassion are always in demand.

Those of us with personal planets and Angles in the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) from 09° to 13° are most vulnerable to the tensions of this lunation. Exercise caution when you are out and drive defensively with as few distractions as possible.

What we can do on this momentous Aries New Moon is identify the best ways to move forward when it is possible to do so. Between now and the next New Moon in Taurus on April 29, the noise level and contentiousness is going to be too high to accomplish much of anything. It is time to take the long view and wait until the worst subsides . . . and it will.

On a personal note: There are several exact aspects to my chart on this New Moon: the Sun and Moon oppose my natal Neptune, Neptune in Pisces is trine my natal Jupiter in Scorpio, Saturn in Scorpio exactly conjoins my twelfth house Mercury with Mars in Libra Rx exactly semi-sextile my Mercury. All this adds up to a twelfth house theme . . . time to seriously consider how effectively I am being of service to others.

One small grumble . . . I am so very, very tired of Saturn squelching my Mercury, causing my mind to work extremely slowly. *pout*

  • Diane, thanks for the heads up, nothing’s more frustrating than pushing for results at the wrong moment! I am a silent reader of yours (except for once, and thanks for the awesome reply :) You may not know how extremly effective your site is in serving others. Thank you for the guidence and links, my life and those around me are much better for it! <3 As for Neptune fog, he and Mercury are on my MC, so I'm attending to the basics, and dreaming rich, lush, Venusian dreams *Taurus*
