Observations: Natal Inconjuncts & Non-standard Solutions

© Stephanie Pui-Mun Law

Last week Mars in Virgo made the first of three passes to the closest aspect in my natal chart, an inconjunct between Uranus in Gemini and Mars/Mercury in Scorpio. Mars in Virgo is sextile to my Mars/Mercury in Scorpio but squares Uranus in Gemini, the other end of this inconjunct. Another factor is Mars/Mercury also conjoins my Ascendant from the twelfth house side.

All of us who have inconjuncts involving the personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars) natally are challenged because there is simply no easy way to resolve the issues represented by the signs connected by this aspect. What I finally realized is the best outcome is often non-standard. In other words, we add 2 + 2 and come up with 5 . . . and it works for us.

Natal Yods with two inconjuncts focusing on one planet are the most challenging because they are relentless in forcing the individual to deal with the reality the conventional approach often fails to produce the desired result. The Sun as the apex says be yourself regardless, the Moon says please accept your emotional response is atypical, Mercury means your thinking process is decidedly different, Venus hints your style is out of sync with the current mode and Mars says the way you get things done is effective but unique!

For instance, my inconjunct directly affects my physical well-being and since I enjoyed good health most of my adult life (thanks to Mars conjunct the ASC), it wasn’t until the last few years that I began to realize I needed to be very proactive in assessing and dealing with my health concerns. Treating digestive issues with the standard products to reduce stomach acid no longer worked and I went to a naturopath who recommended adding more HCL, which did help. Because I’m the sort who always wants to know “why”, I asked but didn’t get any helpful answers from the doctors. Eventually my own research led me to believe most of my health issues were related to menopause and the subsequent drop in estrogen. About three months ago, I started taking a low dose, topical estrogen product . . . and it was enough to kick start my stomach into producing HCL once more. None of the doctors I saw told me to expect this. Thinking outside the conventional approach (Uranus inconjunct Mercury) produced the best results but if I didn’t trust my own process the outcome may not have been as good.

For artists, musicians and writers, having a natal inconjunct can be great. It helps them express their creativity in new and interesting ways. They are also good at turning mistakes into opportunities and using flaws constructively.

The inconjunct is less common than the five major aspects (conjunctions, sextiles, trines, squares and oppositions) but it packs a big punch if you have one or two. I feel it is very important for those of us who live with this awkward aspect to cherish our uniqueness and remember to respect what works for us even if it is non-standard.

Merry Christmas to all!

© Diane Lang

Wishing everyone a spectacular and delightful Christmas! May we all enjoy a renewed sense of peace and prosperity as Jupiter in Taurus stations direct today. Great Christmas gift to all.

Speaking of Jupiter, my rather substantial elf has Jupiter in Aries conjunct his Mars! He is going to be one big guy when he grows up . . . already off to a great start.  Check out those elf ears too.  :D

Observations: Venus square Jupiter – Too Much of the Good Stuff?

© Milkovasa | Dreamstime.com

On the Solstice, Venus in Aquarius was exactly square Jupiter in Taurus and it turned we had a family gathering the evening before. One of our conversations was about indulging ourselves by eating foods our bodies will not tolerate, i.e. dairy products when one is lactose intolerant. My nephew does this all the time because he loves good food and loves to eat. I checked his chart and found a tight square between his Venus and Jupiter! This lead to more digging in my astro-database and I found the outlines of a pattern suggesting a connection between Jupiter in hard aspect to Venus and a tendency to indulge the senses with unpleasant consequences.

I see a difference between these behaviors and Neptune related addictive behaviors though there is often some Neptune action in the natal charts of those who are unable to resist pleasurable but damaging behaviors. What Neptune aspects add is denial and unless we admit we’re seriously screwing up, we’re stuck! This particular can of worms I’m familiar with due to a semi-sextile between my Jupiter and Venus plus Moon conjunct Neptune . . . bleh. I can and have pushed my limits over the years though it was sweets and cigarettes rather than drugs or alcohol. However, repeated Saturn transits to the Moon, Venus and Jupiter gradually sorted me out and now my “no” works much better . . . not perfect by any means but better.

On Christmas Day Venus will be squaring my natal Jupiter triggering the natal semi-sextile. **sigh** I’m already giving myself a pep talk in advance. Anyone else have ideas/feedback on their natal Venus-Jupiter aspect and the tendency to overdo the good stuff?

Observations: Fun Saturn-Sun Transits

Saturn in Libra is drawing ever closer to my 29° Libra Sun and even though the transit won’t be exact until January 2012, this transit is increasingly on my mind. This will be the third time over the course of my life Saturn will conjoin my Sun. See what happens if you live long enough?!

My first experience of Saturn in Libra was about the time I started school as a very small, very shy five year old shoved into first grade (no pre-school or kindergarten in those days). On the plus side learning to read and write came easily to me and the minus side, I was so shy socializing with the other kids wasn’t easy. My older Scorpio sister had the opposite problem – she loved being around the other children but struggled with learning to read and write. The upshot was I spent most of my grade school years haunting the library and reading everything I could get my hands on whilst my sister got into trouble going over to her girlfriend’s house without permission.

Natally, Saturn squares my Sun and made me very aware of the authority figures in my life, like parents and teachers. As a child, I knew I had to go to school even though I hated it and did my best to find excuses to stay at home . . . none to successfully I might add. This also means any Saturn transits to my Sun add to the weight of the existing square. In other words, no way in hell am I going to get out of fulfilling my responsibilities and duties! As an adult I appreciate the good work ethic I developed as a result, as a child I did my darndest to get out around what I felt were restrictions.

More recent Saturn transits to my Sun include a sextile when Saturn was in Leo in September 2007 around the time I was phasing myself out of my day job, and a semi-sextile from Saturn in Virgo that lasted from October 2009 to July 2010. The latter transit brought about major changes to my digestive system, forcing me to completely change what I could/can eat. In true Saturn fashion, I ended up slowly but surely losing forty plus pounds since October 2009 and seeing an overall improvement in my health and well-being.

Recently I found out my bones (Saturn) are starting to thin and I need to do two things: increase my calcium intake and do weight bearing exercises. Since hitting the gym and starting an intense weight routine would KILL my ligaments and tendons, the wiser course is to start slooowly and very gradually increase the intensity – more Saturn. Here is where the Saturn transit to my Sun will help keep me on track with this. For one thing, I know this is a long term change in routine and for another, I also know the benefits will accrue very gradually. It will probably be a year or two before I have another bone density test done by which time Saturn will have left Libra for Scorpio and entered my twelfth house.

Thanks to Jilly’s reminder about Venus in Capricorn squaring Saturn in Libra in December (December 18 to be exact) in mutual reception, I also realized Saturn will be conjunct my natal Chiron exactly at that point in time. Not too sure HOW I feel about that aspect . . . one more thing to mull over between now and then!

I have come to the conclusion over the years there is no fighting Saturn and his insistence we uphold our duties and responsibilities via transits to our Suns. One way or another, he’ll make sure of that. Graceful acceptance is the ideal and one I keep shooting for. Who knows? I may get there yet!! :D

Observations: Ideal Home – Moon plus IC Sign

© Diane Lang

A friend of mine sent me photos of her beautiful home and it got me to thinking about what the sign of our Moon and the sign on the IC (cusp of the fourth house) tell us about our ideal home. Of course, I just had to dig around in my familial data base to see what turned up.

As most of you know, I have an airy Libra Moon and when I put that together with Pisces on the IC, I am happiest living around water in some form with a nice, long view to rest my eyes. My home is near a river and in the summer, we have a very small stream of water running through our yard for irrigation purposes. The surrounding countryside has a view of fields, hills and plenty of sky. Though I have lived in urban areas, they are usually too closed in for me to tolerate for very long.

My two Gemini step-daughters who have similar chart wheels with Libra Rising and Capricorn on the fourth house cusp, have very different Moon signs. One has a Gemini Moon and the other Moon in Capricorn. When we were visiting Ms Gemini Moon, she told me she needed to live somewhere she could look out and see mountains. Having a nice home is very important to her and when they bought their second house, it came with marble counter tops in the bathrooms and granite in the kitchen. She has decorated it in lovely, warm, earthy colors. Ms Capricorn Moon and IC, on the other hand, has a decent house in a posh neighborhood. Her décor is minimalist – neutrals, white walls and dark woodwork. It’s all about the address I guess. I have every expectation both women will always upgrade shrewdly each time they decide to buy a new home.

My friend has an Aquarius Moon with Scorpio on the IC. Her need for an unobstructed view led her to choose a building site out in the country. However, she loves it when the fog rolls in, shrouding her home and the countryside in mystery. In her case, water plus air = fog. *grin*

While only going by the signs is very loose and general, it is fun to think about and surprisingly accurate. How well do you feel your home reflects the combination of your Moon sign and the sign on the cusp of your fourth house?
