Observations: “Bad” Charts & Aspects

© Joan Egert | Dreamstime.com

There is no such thing as “bad” or “evil” in astrology and the planets, signs and aspects are essentially neutral. Recently one of my readers posted this in a comment:

I have it in my Sun(Scorpio 29.26) and my Moon(29.52 Cancer). I have read other blogs which claim that those who have Sun and Moon in 29 are “evil” or “bad” and it really bothers me. It is not true!

I agree completely and not just because I too have a 29° Sun. Even allowing plenty of latitude for personal interpretation and preferences, using terms like “bad” or “evil” goes too far in my opinion. It is also easy to overdo it in the other direction and end up in Pollyanna land where everything is all sweetness and light. So Libra says steer clear of extremes and stay open minded.

These days you can calculate an accurate chart for yourself quickly and easily on sites like astro.com. It is learning to accurately interpret that chart that is the challenging part. I’ve been studying charts and astrology for many, many years and still consider myself a student of astrology. Donna Cunningham has some wonderful resources on her site, Skywriter, for both the professional astrologer and the interested beginner.

The interpretation of compatibility or synastry aspects is another area where astrologers wander off the deep end of their personal prejudices. Saturn and Pluto aspects in synastry are often given harsh interpretations, frightening people unnecessarily. I have a number of such synastry aspects with my Ram and we have been happily together for over twenty years. We have a Mars square Pluto intra-aspect (same planets from both charts) and rarely even raise our voices much less resort to physical violence. And yet some astrologers would have you believe Mars-Pluto aspects in synastry are downright nasty. His Saturn conjoins my Moon and even though I occasionally mutter when he adds yet another item to my “to do” list, I still feel loved and supported by him. We also have quite a few traditionally “good” aspects like my Venus trine his Sun and Ascendant. It takes an experienced and impartial eye to sort out synastry aspects and come up with a fair assessment for compatibility.

My rule of thumb is to throw out the extreme interpretations from both ends of the spectrum and go with what’s left. Yes, my Libra need for fairness and moderation is showing but that’s my job! :D

Observations: Using the Rulers of the Sixth & Tenth Houses in Job Search, Part Four

© Marek Uliasz | Dreamstime.com

Finally I will cover the Ninth House through the Twelfth House – the last quadrant of the zodiac.

Rulers of the Sixth and Tenth in the Ninth House:

Colleges and universities are resources for those with their rulers in the ninth house along with former professors or old classmates. People you met when traveling abroad can be helpful. If you work with foreign nationals, they might have good suggestions for you, especially if Mars and Jupiter are in the ninth. Those with the Sun, Moon and Venus involved often have some connection with institutions of higher learning or the publishing industry. Mercury is a natural for being comfortable in either publishing or writing. Neptune here suggests creative types, like writers, as does Uranus. Saturn is more likely a former teacher, etc. Pluto points to someone like the editor in chief.

Rulers of the Sixth and Tenth in the Tenth House:

People with a well populated tenth house including the rulers are often found either in management or self-employed. Being the “go to” person comes naturally to them. The Sun and Venus usually make it easy for you to attract the attention of those who run the show. Mercury is great for knowing just what to say and often is in the tenth house of those who speak for Mr. Big like the executive assistant. Mars, Jupiter and Saturn are all indicators of someone who is interested in being their own boss or willing to do what it takes to climb to the top. Neptune here works best for those in the Arts or helping professions and connecting with others in those fields. Uranus makes creating your own job a very real possibility. Pluto says you have an instinct for knowing who the most powerful person in the room is and how to approach them.

Rulers of the Sixth and Tenth in the Eleventh House:

The rulers here are all about any groups or organizations you belong to including your peers. Usually if you have your Sun, Moon, Mercury or Venus in the eleventh you already have an extensive network of friends and colleagues who are willing and able to connect you with potential employers or jobs. Mars gives you the necessary drive to mine those connections. Jupiter in the eleventh is very convivial and attracts like-minded individuals. Saturn is probably not very helpful because here again he can be isolating. Neptune can mean very undependable associates. Pluto is tricky here too but still helps identify the power players who might be willing to give you a hand.

Rulers of the Sixth and Tenth in the Twelfth House:

The obvious sources are people you know who work in hospitals, law enforcement, committed volunteers in various institutions and so on. Generally speaking if you have planets in the twelfth you already have contacts like this because you are naturally drawn to service organizations and institutions. The Sun, Moon, Mercury and Venus are obvious candidates for putting you in the position to know members of these groups. Mars and Pluto are both strong choices for being able to connect with law enforcement types. Neptune is at home here and is very comfortable in hospitals and clinics, talking to nurses and doctors. Uranus means you likely know the truly eccentric members of those who live behind the scenes. Pluto too puts you in touch with the darker types in power. Here is another place where Saturn is not much help; the twelfth is just too nebulous for him. I would add a note of caution for those with their rulers here because you can run into those who would undermine and mislead you too.

After talking this over with my two Gemini step-daughters (both in their thirties and both very successfully employed as well as typical Gemini information hounds), they both confirmed the importance of the right people in finding work. Also the more you know about the position you are seeking and the people you might be working with the better. What I’m attempting to do with these posts is to help narrow down the best possible contacts based on the natal chart.

Very, VERY best of luck to those out looking for work!

Observations: Mars in Cancer, Mercury Retch & Saturn Thoughts

© Diane Lang

Whew! Mercury stationed retrograde yesterday, Mars entered Cancer in the wee hours and the Moon shifted into Libra. The last I like because Libra Moons usually treat me well but the other two, not so much.

This was one of the tougher lead ups to a Mercury Station I’ve seen in quite awhile and largely due to the opposition to Neptune exact on 28 July. Lots of mental whiteouts made writing difficult so I ended up choosing to do simple, routine tasks like picking berries, mowing the lawn, cleaning house and so on. I have Mars conjunct Mercury so when Mercury is acting up, I can turn to physical activity (Mars) and it usually helps me regain mental focus. Part of the transit package over the past few days was a Mars in Gemini trine to my Libra Sun giving it a lift, so choosing physical activity was an easy call.

Now Mars is in Cancer . . . not its happy place. While Cancer is an energetic cardinal sign, it is too sensitive for blunt, direct Mars to operate well. Cancer is a subtle sign and will move sideways rather than confront someone directly when attacked. Mars in Cancer gets a mixed review from me because it irritates my Libra planets no end while being very supportive to my Scorpio planets and Ascendant. There is a day or so in late August when Mars in Cancer will be squaring my Moon at the same time Saturn in Libra is conjoining it . . . there will probably be some less than pretty moments around here. I’m just thankful we get Mars in Cancer squaring Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn out of the way before he squares Saturn in Libra. I’ll take my silver linings where I can get them, thank you very much!

Now I’ve been contemplating Saturn and his effect a lot lately. It would seem the old cold one really does put a damper on the sector of chart he is transiting or lives in natally. For example, if you have Saturn in Aries, normally a very independent sign, chances are you will act more like a Libra who prefers to consult with others before making a decision. Saturn in Libra, or in the seventh house, often chooses (or forces) the individual to learn how to go it alone. In the long run (Saturn) we usually benefit from Saturn’s lessons, unpleasant as they are at the time.

Saturn is currently transiting my eleventh house and conjoining my Moon. The eleventh house is our peer groups and associates and the Moon often represents women in our lives. The eleventh house is ruled by Aquarius and I can make a case for putting cyber-friends and other internet groups like FaceBook there. This past year I have lost touch with some close women friends, both on the internet and in the physical world. I am hoping those people will reemerge once Saturn moves past my Moon but we’ll see.

How was your Mercury Station? What do you think Mars in Cancer will bring you? And I would love to hear what others have to add on Saturn both natally and transiting too. Thanks!! :D

Observations: Using the Rulers of the Sixth & Tenth Houses in Job Search, Part Three

© Marek Uliasz | Dreamstime.com

Next I will cover the Fifth House through the Eighth House. As a basic rule of thumb – if you have planets in a house, you are naturally going to know more about that house and how it functions in your life.

Rulers of the Sixth and Tenth in the Fifth House:

If you have Leo ruling either the sixth or the tenth houses and your Sun falls in the fifth house, you will have some of Leo’s natural presence working for you when looking for work. This is another placement where meeting with potential employers can help you. The fifth house association with children can translate as help from parental types or the children themselves. Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars are more likely to tap into that energy than those with the outer planet rulers in the fifth. People who share your creative pursuits are another resource. Saturn receives mixed revues here, making you work twice as hard to be visible in the market place.

Rulers of the Sixth and Tenth in the Sixth House:

Coworkers, healthcare professionals, people already working for the company you wish to join can be helpful. Usually those folks with their Sun or Moon in the sixth house are among the group most likely to be gainfully employed. They gravitate towards positions where they can help others and are often content with being an excellent Indian rather than a big chief. Mercury, Mars and Jupiter all help with getting the right education and learning how to put together a killer resume. Saturn is more helpful in the sixth because he helps give you a solid work ethic – always appealing to potential employers. Neptune works better for those interested in service work, Uranus for technical positions and Pluto for mental health professionals.

Rulers of the Sixth and Tenth in the Seventh House:

It is important to keep in mind the seventh house deals with one-on-one relationships of all kinds, including life partner or mate, business partner, life-long friends, therapists, life coach counselor or co-authors. Open enemies of the worthy adversaries land here too. Remember equality plays a big role in these relationships.

So what does this have to do with the rulers of the sixth and tenth here? It’s because the planet(s) can represent one or more of those folks and if the planet is well aspected, they will help you in your job search. Saturn in the seventh can mean you often end up learning how to go it alone and feedback from readers says even if Saturn doesn’t rule your sixth or tenth and is either in the seventh or aspecting planets in the seventh, you are on your own. I’m inclined to see Jupiter as the life-long friend or life coach, Neptune as your counselor, Pluto the therapist. Uranus is the person who’s been your friend since grade school who shows up out of the blue and yet feels like they never left.

Rulers of the Sixth and Tenth in the Eighth House:

The rulers here can mean you may give you an instinct for where the real power lies in any given work environment. It also may give you an edge when filling out application forms and preparing your resume with cover letter because you know how to appeal to the higher-ups. Businesses that work with other people’s money like banks, accounting and investment firms are all good places to check out for leads to finding employment. The outer planets in the eighth house, especially Pluto, enhance the ability to suss out the source of power. The personal planets may make it easier to connect with helpful individuals.

It’s worth paying attention to which planets naturally rule which houses also because if the ruler of the sixth and/or tenth falls in the house it rules, it is much easier for the energies represented by the planet to be expressed. For example, Mars is the natural ruler of the first house and if Aries is on your Midheaven and Mars is in the first house, you probably aren’t particularly shy about going after what you want in a very personal upfront way.

First House – Mars; Second House – Venus; Third House – Mercury; Fourth House – Moon; Fifth House – Sun; Sixth House – Mercury; Seventh House – Venus; Eighth House – Pluto; Ninth House – Jupiter; Tenth House – Saturn; Eleventh House – Uranus; Twelfth House – Neptune.

Observations: Using the Rulers of the Sixth & Tenth Houses in Job Search, Part Two

© Marek Uliasz | Dreamstime.com

The response to the first post on this subject has inspired me to dig deeper and take a closer look at using astrology to help with finding work – a big concern for far too many of us these days.

First I want to quickly review the signs and their ruling planet and other relevant information.

Aries is ruled by Mars; Taurus by Venus; Gemini by Mercury; Cancer by the Moon; Leo by the Sun; Virgo by Mercury; Libra by Venus; Scorpio by Pluto; Sagittarius by Jupiter; Capricorn by Saturn, Aquarius by Uranus and Pisces by Neptune. I like using Earth as Taurus’s ruler and it is ALWAYS the point exactly opposite the Sun in the natal chart.

Please don’t be concerned if you have no planets in the sixth or tenth houses (I don’t . . .),  just check the sign on the cusp of those houses and then find the house where the ruling planet is posited (nice astrological term for located). It is also very important to note how those planets are aspected, especially if the personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars) are involved. There is a big difference between Saturn sitting by his lonesome and if he is squelching your Venus.

The Sun and Venus often act by attracting attention to you. The Moon may mean family can be helpful or those with whom you have an emotional connection. Mercury excels at putting together a good resume and getting it out there and Mars usually says you need to put yourself out there to get somewhere, Jupiter is the best at self-promotion while Saturn is not. Saturn usually makes us fill out all the forms and jump through every single hoop to get a job. Uranus can mean being able to take advantage of the most cutting edge internet options for job search and getting offers out of the blue. Neptune works best for those who have a specific image to sell and for finding work in the creative arts. Pluto is both good for attracting work to you and for being able to ferret out really good positions before they are even posted.

I’m going to start off with a look at the first four Houses today. Please keep in mind this basic rule of thumb – if you have planets in a house, you are naturally going to know more about that house and how it functions in your life.

Rulers of the Sixth and Tenth in the First House:

Planets in the first house in general draw attention to you and the way you present yourself to the world at large. If you have the Sun or Venus there and well aspected, meeting with people face to face is the way to go. The Moon means sensitivity to emotional undercurrents and the need to monitor one’s mood swings before an interview. Mars is great for being willing to put yourself out there as is Jupiter. A well aspected Mercury is wonderful for interviews. Saturn can help make one come across as responsible and mature. Uranus is tricky because you may appear more eccentric than you actually are. Working with Neptune here you can appear sympathetic or spacey or anyway you choose. Pluto in the first is a lot like having Scorpio Rising, even without saying anything you have presence.

Rulers of the Sixth and Tenth in the Second House:

People with planets in the second house are naturally more aware of their value and making sure they have a decent income. The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter here are great placements for being able to attract job offers, especially for positions working with cash flow. Saturn often means taking a low paying starting role with an eye to working up over time. Those with loaded second houses tend to make sure they stay gainfully employed, so rarely need to spend much time looking for work. They also make very sure they have a new position firmly in place before leaving the old one.

Rulers of the Sixth and Tenth in the Third House:

Networking and staying in touch with your siblings, neighbors, close friends is a good place to start. Those with planets here are often very good at working with places like Monster.com and Craig’s List to find work. Obviously it is better to have the personal planets here because those who do often already have a wide network of people to tap into for possible job openings. Saturn can constrict your ability to communicate initially but once these folks learn how to put together a great resume, they are very good at getting it to the right people at the right time.

Rulers of the Sixth and Tenth in the Fourth House:

What can I say? Nepotism at its finest works for those with planets in the fourth, especially the Moon. The best way for these folks to find job openings is to let the extended family know you are looking. In a general sense, if it is your Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars in the fourth, your immediate family is your best source of help. From Jupiter on out, it could be aunts, uncles and even people from your home town.

The next installment will be posted next week, time permitting.
