Observations: Mysterious Neptune in Pisces

© Marekusz | Dreamstime.com

I’m excited about Neptune arriving in Pisces today though I expect it will take us awhile to get an idea of what it will bring. Learning about Neptune is sort of like the blind men describing an elephant . . . we get bits and pieces right but the whole picture tends to elude us.

The water signs – Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces – are the ones who stand to benefit the most from Neptune in Pisces since they operate best from a fluid, emotional place. Gemini and Sagittarius folk will have the toughest time dealing with this Neptune because it is going to seriously mess with their heads. Mental Gemini likes their information clear and linear whilst Sagittarius is far too impatient to untangle for Neptune in Pisces meanderings. Fiery Aries and Leo will probably ignore any Neptune related issues and walk away shaking their heads . . . it take a few years for them to get the message. Libra and Aquarius may initially wonder what is going but once their more altruistic side kicks in, they’ll be able to deal OK. The earth signs – Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn – are also going to appreciate Neptune in Pisces because it will appeal to their softer side and bring out the best in them.

Over the first few years in Pisces, Neptune will interact with some of the other outer planets. Although Neptune and Uranus spent a couple of years in mutual reception when Neptune was in Aquarius and Uranus in Pisces, it will be widely semi-sextile Uranus in Aries only for the rest of February 2012 . . . minor irritations only. In June 2012 when Jupiter enters Gemini it will square Neptune for a few weeks and encourage all sorts of off the wall extravagances. I expect the political rhetoric here in the USA to take some truly amazing flights of fancy! After Saturn enters Scorpio in October 2012, it will be trine Neptune for a few weeks and I’m betting we will love that relationship. Saturn harmoniously aspecting Neptune is extremely good for working artists of all kinds.

I decided to offer you links to read about what other astrologers have to say about Neptune in Pisces including some historical information from the last time Neptune visiting the last sign. Enjoy!

Observations: Transitions Saturn Style

© Stephanie Pui-Mun Law

Saturn is very much on my mind these days and I can’t help seeing life through a Saturn filter. I got to pondering transitions and how different each planet’s style of making transitions is. Uranus transitions are abrupt. One day you are living your life in one place and the next you’re packing up to move halfway across town . . . or even further. Jupiter’s transitions are usually upgrades of one kind or another because he does like the best. Pluto’s transitions always, ALWAYS, demand we completely remove something or someone from our lives before we are allowed to bring in the new. Neptune? Who knows where a Neptune transition begins or ends!

Saturn transitions usually have a definite starting point, a long middle and a clear end. We often have specific goals and tasks we need to accomplish too. When Saturn was within ten degrees of my Sun last October, I underwent a series of tests to determine my overall health and one thing I found out was my bones had started to thin. Saturn rules the skeleton and it was apparent I needed to take steps to do what I could to improve mine. However, also true to Saturn’s style, this would take time and tenacity to accomplish. Basically I need to do two things . . . make sure I take enough calcium and do exercises to stress my bones to strengthen them. Starting slowly and gradually increasing repetitions is necessary to avoid putting too much stress on tendons and ligaments. I can hear Saturn’s voice in my head telling me to do each step with care and not skip a one.

I also started very low dose estrogen therapy at the same time and here again, it’s a slow process. My doc told me it would be a year (yes, about the time Saturn enters Scorpio next fall) before I would see consistent improvement. So I will continue to revisit a variety of symptoms like hot flashes and other perimenopausal joys as those gradually taper off over the coming months.

One thing about the lessons we learn from Saturn transits is they are very effective and we often incorporate them into our lives. There are techniques I learned for maintaining health and well being I still use every day that I picked up when Saturn was in Libra and Scorpio in the 1980’s. In other words, we can build on what Saturn teaches us! Saturn is very good that way unlike Uranus and Pluto who want us to let the past go.

There are some advantages to being past my second Saturn Return and having developed a good working relationship with Saturn over the years. I know deep down if I play by his rules and acknowledge the importance of delayed gratification; I will eventually achieve my goals. I also know the importance of focusing on the next step and not looking too far ahead to avoid getting discouraged. It’s tough to do in these days of instant communication and fast forward lives but not impossible. Slow and steady . . . that’s the ticket! :D

Observations: Mars Station Blues

© Diane Lang

The day Mars in Virgo stationed retrograde in my tenth house, I ended up running around helping Mr. Aries most of the day instead of getting my weeklies posted.

We got hit with an abundance of snow and very cold weather in the days leading up to the New Moon/Mars Station and needed to dig out. My Aries usually plows our driveway and my dad’s, who lives about a mile up the road. He got ours done and was driving the tractor up the road when it just stopped . . . the diesel fuel gelled up. We got his pickup and I towed the tractor back here. Later in the day he tried again and got about halfway before the tractor died a second time. This time around he had me tow him to my dad’s house and wait while he worked on the tractor. An hour later he discovers he will need to replace filters and add kerosene to the fuel tank . . . by that time the day was shot! Next morning he runs to town and gets what he needs to fix the tractor, an errand that took him twice as long because he had to wait for a store to open. He did repair the tractor and now it’s working fine but it sure wasn’t quick or easy.

In general, I find the three or four days on either side of the moment Mars stations are the most intense and once Mars begins to pick up some speed in reverse, he creates fewer problems. My very Aries spouse is a good test case for Mars transits and since his natal Mars in Scorpio is retrograde, I am going to see how this retrograde plays out for him. It will take place entirely in his sixth house! His energy levels are fine so far though I’ve heard others are feeling sluggish. Mars was/is inconjunct his Jupiter in Aries in his first house.

Anyone else run into situations requiring extra patience over the New Moon and Mars Station?

Observations: Neptune in Pisces – a gentle lunacy

© Annie Musse

Endings and beginnings are on my mind these days with Saturn weighing down my 29° Libra Sun with Neptune at 29° Aquarius trine it. We’re now a couple of weeks away from Neptune’s ingress into its home sign of Pisces and I, for one, see this as far more positive than not.

Shape shifter that he is, Neptune has struggled during his lengthy stay in Aquarius starting on 28 January 1998. Aquarius is fixed air and very big on coming up with “one size fits all” schemes for the collective . . . and then spends a great deal of time and energy insisting on stuffing everyone into their particular box without checking to see whether or not it’s a good fit. We’ve seen the rise of social networking via the internet spread around the globe and people “friending” people they’ve never met face to face. Don’t get me wrong, I love the internet and being able to connect with people around the world suits my North Node in Gemini to a ‘T’. However, in my opinion, the ability to discriminate what’s appropriate to share from what’s best kept private has been lost– very much Neptune in Aquarius. Aquarius is simply too cerebral and detached to understand why sensitive water sign folk are repulsed by the “too much information” crowd.

Another blessing of Neptune in Pisces for the next thirteen years is having the water element represented full time. Ever since Uranus left Pisces for Aries last March there are been long periods when only the swift moving Moon passed through the water signs, making it challenging for people to stay in touch with their feelings. Neptune in Pisces is an excellent representative for watery energy and will provide a subtle background note gently prodding us to take our emotions into account at all times.

I’m sure we will deal with too much sentimentality and maybe more than a few people suffering from savior complexes but overall I’m hoping Neptune in Pisces will open hearts and remind us of those feelings we have in common. Getting Neptune’s influence out of our heads and back into our hearts opens the door to unconditional love and acceptance. We need to renew our appreciation for genuine compassion and let go of the need to convince others our brand of ideology will serve the masses better than yours. Believe me, we’ll need every bit of help we can get to smooth the jagged edges of Uranus in Aries battling it out with Pluto in Capricorn for the next three years!

The movie, Big Fish, is a marvelous example of Neptune’s better nature. Imaginative and loving all at the same time.

Observations: Beautiful Venus in Pisces

© Susan Seddon Boulet

Ah, beautiful Venus arrives in the sign she is exalted in . . . Pisces, sustaining the loving warmth she found in her conjunction to Neptune, Pisces’s ruler, while still in Aquarius. Venus is somewhat uncomfortable in cerebral, crystalline Aquarius and is very, very happy to dive into watery Pisces where she enriches all our lives with sympathy and sensitivity to the needs of others. One of the gifts Venus in Pisces brings to the collective is renewing the awareness other people of all varieties matter and we need to treat our fellow travelers with understanding and tolerance.

This year Venus conjoined Neptune in Aquarius but for many years to come, when Venus enters Pisces, she will conjoin Neptune in Pisces at some point. Children born with the conjunction will have a marked degree of sensitivity to the plight of others. Whether this is a blessing or a curse will depend on the rest of their charts because being overly sensitive to pain and suffering is very difficult to live with. These little ones will need to be taught how to step back and establish boundaries from a very early age.

Something I’ve noted is how Venus in Pisces in the charts of those with the Sun in Capricorn, Aquarius, Aries and Taurus, markedly softens those signs. It gives business-like Capricorn a heart and helps them remember to give people a second chance to succeed; and for Aquarius, who often loves humanity more than individuals, Venus in Pisces aids them in appreciating their nearest and dearest. Being personally acquainted with several Aries Sun folk with this gentle Venus, I can attest to its ability slow them down, make them aware other people suffer too and to treat those folks with kindness. The rare Taurus Sun with Venus in Pisces is a truly gentle, loving soul who goes out of their way to make others feel good. Of course, Pisces Sun with Venus in Pisces is blessed with artistic talents of some kind, often for music and dance. They can have an exceptional ability to distinguish subtle color differences too. Their downfall may be the desire to escape reality altogether thru drugs, religion or other Neptunian illusions.

Life is short and Venus will only be in Pisces until 7 February, so make the most of this sweet, sweet time to enjoy a romantic moment with your lover, retreat to your bath with candles and scented oils, walk on the beach and listen to the waves or simply put on your favorite music to unwind. Take a moment or two to appreciate the importance of being inclusive rather than exclusive in honor of this wonderful Venus.
