Powerful undertows are always a part of the Scorpio Full Moon and this one at 23° 55′ Scorpio on 14 May 2014, 12:17 PM PDT, is no exception. Saturn in Scorpio conjoins the Moon and for those who have been attempting to evade the Lord of Karma, this Full Moon may prove to be a time of reckoning. People with their natal Saturn from 18° to 24° in the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius) are most likely to feel Saturn’s boot prints on their backs but anyone who has personal planets or Angles at those degrees in the fixed signs could get frequent reminders about accepting responsibility for one’s actions with grace. After all, Saturn in Scorpio is all about grace under pressure.
Saturn does have a mutual support arrangement with Jupiter in Cancer thanks to a waxing trine which will be exact on May 24 at 19°. We might be surprised to find our extended family is happy to cheer us up if we need it. The type of assistance Saturn provides is bound to be very valuable in a pragmatic manner. For instance, the uncle who shows up in his pickup truck with his chain saws to help clear away the tree that landed on your house. Mess gets cleaned up, someone ends up with a nice pile of firewood and it becomes clearer what the next step is to fully repair the damage.
Mars in Libra is now at his station degree of 9° Libra and will remain there until June 1 after going direct May 19. On this lunation the closest aspect Mars makes is an inconjunct to Neptune in Pisces, increasing the sense of lethargy and listlessness. This is a far better time to go on retreat and contemplate our inner workings than getting involved in projects demanding a frontal assault. Those with their Sun in Aries, Aries Rising or Mars in Libra natally have the greatest probability of feeling overloaded or having their progress slowed to a crawl now.
Currently retrograde Mars in Libra is in mutual reception with Venus in Aries. Usually Mars tends to dominate Venus but in this instance I feel they are more or less on equal footing. Both planets are in detriment but while Venus is forthright and direct about her needs in Aries, Mars is further weakened by being retrograde and is rather passive. Putting Mars further on the defensive is the conjunction of Venus and Uranus. The only hope for a fruitful dialogue between lovers may come from the fact both planets are harmoniously aspecting Mercury in Gemini. They could suffer information overload as Mercury happily offers a wide variety of options but they probably won’t be bored. This Mercury will cheerfully throw in a witty remark or two to get everyone laughing and break the ice. Progress is possible!
A more serious aspect is the square between the Venus-Uranus conjunction in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn. This pits the rulers of Taurus and Scorpio against each other, not always a good thing. Venus-Uranus may feel they have to fight for even the smallest expression of independence while Pluto can make a good case for remaining in control to protect them. Here again Mercury as the messenger of the gods can be of help in resolving supposedly irresolvable issues, many of which were brought to light during period when the Grand Cross was ruling the skies. Full Moons have a way of shining light into the darker corners of our beings and if we allow ourselves to recognize those, we can begin to work on accepting the fact all of us have a dark side. In this situation even the smallest gains are important. Above all work very, very, very hard to avoid expectations of a specific outcome and/or making assumptions . . . both are major pitfalls.
One thing this Full Moon in Scorpio celebrates is the renewal of life. Taurus and Scorpio are both fertile signs though they express this in different ways. Taurus embraces the senses and delights in all the rich greens and fragrant flowers of spring. Scorpio is as much about rebirth as it is about the death that precedes it. Together they remind us to appreciate each day as it comes and live as much in the moment as possible.
On a personal note: This period between the Taurus New Moon Solar Eclipse and the Scorpio Full Moon have been filled with doctors, lawyers, financial advisers, Living Wills, and all sorts of Scorpio/eighth house matters. My daily routines were turned upside down and I’ve been frantically busy. Jupiter in Cancer squared my Libra Moon from the eighth house while Uranus in Aries opposed it from the fifth. Saturn in Scorpio has FINALLY moved off my Mars by this Full Moon but, dang, Saturn has heavy feet! I started writing this post about a week ago but kept getting interrupted.
What I’m hoping is the Full Moon will see the culmination of most intense phase of my father’s hospital stay which began a day or so after the Aries Full Moon Lunar Eclipse. I’m sure I will continue to deal with the fallout of this event but in a less dramatic manner. Bills will be coming in and need to be handled for quite some time.
As for this lunation, the Full Moon is within a degree or two of my Ascendant-Mercury in Scorpio with the Taurus Sun close to my Descendant. The Venus-Uranus conjunction opposes my Libra Moon from the fifth house while Mercury in Gemini conjoins my North Node . . . yes, probably why I’m going into this whole scenario in more depth than usual!
Breathe easy because we get another week with no major bumps! At the end of the week is a truly wonderful Full Moon in mysterious Scorpio under which we can explore the Mysteries or simply dance the night away.
One of the nice things about having few major tough aspects to deal with is we can tune into the Moon and her moods. She starts out Monday in outgoing, dramatic Leo before slipping into introspective Virgo late in the day. Tuesday and Wednesday are excellent for puttering around handling the small stuff, whether in the office or at home. When the Moon enters fair minded, socially aware Libra on Thursday and Friday, negotiations are favored. Best be scrupulously fair though because the Moon closes out her stay in Libra with a conjunction to Saturn.
The weekend brings the Moon to Scorpio along with the tough aspect of the week – an opposition between Mercury in Aries and Saturn in Libra. Here Saturn may remind you of your mother and tell you to watch your language. It also acts as an anchor, preventing this impatient Mercury from overreaching.
For those undergoing significant transits, less background noise allows them to focus on those transits and how to deal with them. Neptune transits in particular are hard to define and often take a third party, like your astrologer, to point out. I have Neptune transiting my third house square my natal Venus right now and am having a terrible staying on track. Crazy making . . .
Take your time and pay attention to the ebb and flow of your moods this week and follow the Moon through your natal chart . . . always a useful exercise learning more about one’s natal chart dynamics.
You really need to be open to listening closely to your partner this week, Aries, as they have legitimate concerns. If you insist on doing it your way come hell or high water, the end results may be painful. Practice listening actively, OK? You can do it!
This is an excellent time for you to reflect on all your one-on-one relationships, Taurus, and evaluate whether or not those are working for you. If you are not happy, then you need to figure out why and what you want to do about it.
Nothing makes you happier, Gemini, than feeling like your mind is working like a finely tuned machine! You have the information you need at your finger tips and the knack to express yourself with charm. What more could you want? Sweet!
More than any other sign, Cancer, you feel the subtle changes the Moon makes as she moves through the signs. The focus will shift from business related communications, to home and family and the weekend may revive your interest in love and romance.
In terms of the big picture, the lion’s share of your attention is on your career at this time, Leo. You are interested in meeting with those who have bright ideas on how you can do this. It wouldn’t hurt to reserve some time for yourself on the weekend.
Monday and Tuesday are your best days to take care of business, Virgo. You will have more energy and it will be easier to focus on your personal concerns. Expect an eventful weekend. At the very least you’ll end up with lots of food for thought.
Probably the best thing about this week for you, Libra, is being able to have pleasant talks with your significant other . . . though I recommend not waiting until the weekend to do so. It will be too easy to end up on opposite sides then.
You can cruise through this week on auto-pilot, Scorpio. That’s good because this coming weekend is a very special time for you. You will have opportunities to delve deep within and discover exactly what your expectations for yourself are. Yeah . . . know thy self!
Taking care of career related details may occupy the first part of your week, Sagittarius, and then you might want to fit in time to get together with your peers. By the weekend though some quality alone time will be in order. Take it if you can.
Take advantage of opportunities to learn new skills the first of the week, Capricorn, especially those that can further your career goals. Do set aside time on the weekend to devote to enjoying life in the company of your favorite people. Have fun!
Make the most of the exceptional mental clarity you will enjoy most of the week, Aquarius, to resolve issues surrounding how you feel about your current career prospects. Do you have sufficient resources to achieve your goals or do you need to come up with alternatives.
You are beginning to emerge from a period when you might have felt out of sync with your partner, Pisces, where it was a challenge to figure out exactly what was going on. Enjoy discussing wide ranging philosophical matters with close friends this weekend.
If you know your Rising sign, read the horoscope for it too.

This is one of the most magical, powerful lunations of the year in my opinion and at 16° 01′ Scorpio on 5 May 2012, 08:35 PM PDT this Full Moon is no exception. Even though Earth always conjoins the Moon when it is full, if Earth is the ruler of Taurus it makes this a very special lunation indeed.
There is nothing ephemeral about the Full Moon in Scorpio. It is very real, passionate and deeply involved with life in the most essential ways – birth, death and regeneration. The old feminine archetypes rule and we celebrate the mysteries whose origins are lost in time. I love thinking about Earth, or Gaia, conjoining the Moon, bringing to mind the power of being able to create new life. This is the perfect time to pay homage to our Mother and acknowledge our unending debt of gratitude to her. And to remember why it is not a good idea to cross Her . . .
Pluto, Scorpio’s ruler, is part of an amazing Grand Kite pattern along with Mars in Virgo and Ceres in Taurus. Chiron in Pisces is the planet opposing Mars in Virgo, sextile Pluto and Ceres making this a Grand Kite. Grand Kites have a bit more punch than Grand Trines because of the opposition. Mars in Virgo is the “arrow” and the focal point. In many ways, this is the perfect pattern to help us delve into our inner beings to take a long look at our expectations and seek out the flaws in our belief system (Chiron). Ceres will be there to provide a nurturing touch and help us from getting too discouraged. Forgiveness is a huge part of any healing process as is the need to remain as non-judgmental as possible. Pluto both fuels the need to dig deep and the knife to open old wounds, allowing them to drain. Mars in Virgo is very well suited to going over the details but since it is also exactly inconjunct Uranus in Aries, it will be less patient than usual. Go easy on the criticism – both of yourself and others.
For those who have struggled getting motivated due to the Mars-Neptune opposition in play over the past couple of weeks, it is finally beginning to wane. From here forward this energy sapping opposition will be history!
On the fire and air side are Mercury in Aries, Venus in Gemini and Saturn in Libra. Mercury has Saturn opposing it and Venus sextile to it, helping us find the tactful thing to say to our nearest and dearest. Jupiter in Taurus is semi-sextile both Mercury and Venus, so ‘over the top’ statements and gestures are likely. For those who prefer to keep things light and cheerful, these are the planets making that possible.
There is something for everyone on this wonderful lunation. If you are of a mind to go deep within and meditate on who you are and your place in the greater scheme of Life, this is an excellent time to do so. If your preference is to enjoy the beauties of the season and refresh your spirit in the process, go for it. Tolerance and acceptance of diversity is never out of season or out of style.
On a personal note: This is a sixth house-twelfth house lunation for me and consequently I usually end up dwelling on whether or not I’m putting enough into being of service to others. With my natal Mercury and Jupiter catching the most aspects, I’m sure more “stuff” will well up out of the depths to be processed too. Who knows what that will inspire!
The Sun, Jupiter and Ceres in Taurus are all in my sixth house these days nagging at me about getting out and working in the garden. They insist it will be good for me to get some fresh air and sunshine! *grin*
What a difference a month makes! On the Full Moon last month, the sky was dominantly cardinal and Aries, and now this Full Moon at 26° 13′ Scorpio on 17 May 2011 at 4:09 AM PDT, the fixed signs and earth are on top.
Those who were able to make the most of the inspiration and enthusiasm of the Aries sky and who are ready to get down to work in a practical and focused manner will prosper now. For those who ignored Saturn in Libra’s suggestions for taking the moderate approach and insisted on their way? Well, those folks are in for a rude awakening. Jupiter is still in Aries but without any support for his more outrageous ideas. What is more the Full Moon in Scorpio makes an exact inconjunct to Jupiter and could show up in the form of a forensic accountant to go over the books with an eagle eye. The Sun in practical Taurus sits semi-sextile to Jupiter and he can’t expect any help from there either. Let’s hope those who strayed too far from good sense are prepared to make sincere, abject apologies for their mistakes!
Saturn in Libra is a free agent on this lunation and while available for thoughtful advice, he will not insist anyone take it. However it is still a very good idea to be kind, patient and willing to compromise, not to mention honest!!
Mercury, Venus and Mars are widely conjoined in early degrees of Taurus with wonderful supporting aspects from Neptune and Chiron in Pisces plus a big kiss from Pluto in Capricorn. Earth and water signs are happy, happy people for a change because they are receiving a large dose of nurturance from this configuration. This goes for those of us with earth and water signs rising too. Venus rules Taurus and Neptune Pisces, so the sextile between them creates a marvelous gentle loving energy that opens the heart and allows love to enter. This influence will inspire tangible gestures of affection and caring like taking a few minutes to massage a loved one’s shoulders or offer to clean the house. Fresh flowers are the preferred gift.
Mercury and Mars in Taurus trine Pluto in Capricorn is perfectly splendid for coming up with solid, realistic tactics to improve one’s situation. If you launched new projects over the last month or so and want to take the next step, this is an excellent time to sit down and come up with an eminently workable plan. Taurus and Capricorn understand exactly how much time and energy it takes to produce real results. They also prefer to deal in facts, not flights of fancy or inspiring rhetoric . . . just concrete facts.
Uranus in Aries is the apex of one of those awkward mini-triangles with semi-sextiles to Neptune in Pisces and Venus-Mercury in Taurus. Usually Venus-Uranus aspects promote love at first sight and Venus-Neptune aspects put us in the mood for romance. However Venus in Taurus is in no hurry ever – even under Neptune’s influence she will still want to see her lover’s bona fides. A more likely scenario is Venus smiling sweetly, enjoying all Uranus’s urgent attentions and then putting him off with a kind word and gentle promise.
For those people with planets and Angles in the early degrees of earth and water signs, this Full Moon looks pleasant indeed, offering opportunities to regroup and recover from the intensity of the past month or so. Scorpio’s edge is softened by the strong Taurus presence, accentuating the possibility of regeneration and rebirth. All of us can join in celebrating the natural world and the pleasures of the senses. It is time to relearn how to pace ourselves!
On a personal note: This Full Moon lines up with my Ascendant-Descendant. The Moon in Scorpio conjoins my Ascendant and encourages a deeper look into how I really feel about what is going on in my life. Saturn in Libra sits in between my Moon and Neptune, continuing to remind me to stay grounded and live in real time . . . no overindulging or flights of fancy allowed. Mercury, Venus and Mars in Taurus are clustered around the cusp of my sixth house trine Pluto in Cappy in my second house. Planets in the earth houses, yay! Maybe I’ll come up with more ideas on improving my work situation and cash flow! That would be good . . .
This Full Moon at 8° 06′ Scorpio on April 28, 2010 at 5:19AM PDT packs a powerful punch due in large part to the T-square the Sun and Moon form with Mars in Leo – all in intractable fixed signs. Those who have planets or Angles at 7-12° Aquarius, creating a Grand Cross, are most likely to take a direct hit.
The Sun in Taurus is also exactly conjoined retrograde Mercury in Taurus and both are square Mars in Leo, creating potentially explosive tempers. Taurus does NOT like to be rushed into anything and if pushed, will dig in with all four hooves and flat refuse to budge one inch. All Leo’s theatrics will not work on the bull, so you might as well pack it in and wait for another day.
Rather than succumbing to the seduction of being “right” and the need to impose our ideas and beliefs on others, a better path might be to draw on the trine from Pluto in Capricorn to the Sun-Mercury conjunction in Taurus. Pluto is willing and able to help us dig deep into our dark sides to seek out those fears and insecurities driving our need to control. The sextile from Pluto to the Moon in Scorpio offers opportunities to delve into the emotions. Have you ever noticed those people who are most comfortable in their skins are the least likely to feel a need to manipulate others?
The other opposition in this chart is Saturn in Virgo to Uranus in Pisces, exact on April 26. Jupiter is within five degrees of conjoining Uranus in Pisces and I’m willing to bet is adding fuel to the current polarizing effect of the opposition. What I do see of value here is an opportunity to clearly identify our beliefs because differences are highlighted in the extreme. Perhaps when tempers cool and sanity returns (whenever THAT will be) we can use that information to start working out some compromises. Saturn will be returning to Libra on July 22, 2010 and you better believe will be calling for constructive compromise!
It occurred to me if Saturn in Virgo could come up with a concrete way to manifest Neptune in Aquarius’s visions for compassionate change, we would all benefit immensely. Just saying . . .
Venus, Taurus’s ruler, has moved on into Gemini and simply wants to flirt with ideas and giggle with her friends. However, she has to get by an inconjunct with the spoilsport Pluto in Capricorn first. At best, Capricorn can be an indulgent parent when it comes to lighthearted Gemini and simply roll his/her eyes and look the other way. Since we can use some lightheartedness right now, perhaps we can opt to forgo being heavy handed with our nearest and dearest.
Best course of action for this lunation? Find something physically demanding to do like clearing out that storage area full of clutter, weeding the garden or choosing the most challenging route for your walk/run. Sitting down to discuss politics or religion with your brother-in-law who invariably takes the opposing point of view? Baaaad for your blood pressure! Even those whose charts are loaded with cardinal signs and love a challenge are advised to stand down for the time being.
Since Mars in Leo will be conjoining my natal Pluto on this Full Moon, this is a good time for me to practice a little anger management too. The Full Moon in Scorpio is illuminating my twelfth house, close to my Part of Fortune, so it might be a good idea to take special note of any dreams; however I would happily settle for a good night’s sleep.
Where does this Full Moon land in your chart and how do you plan on celebrating it?
