Welcome to Capricorn Season! Monday is the solstice and the shortest day of the year here in the northern latitudes. The solstice chart features a Kite Pattern with a Grand Trine in earth and Venus in Scorpio adding a touch of water while creating the Kite, promising more opportunities to be sensible and nurturing rather than confrontive. When I saw this pattern, my heart lifted and it gave me hope all will come right yet over the next six months.
Overall this is a quiet week with few major aspects. One of which is a pleasant, easy going sextile between Venus in Scorpio and Jupiter in Virgo exact Thursday, an excellent aspect for all you last minute shoppers. It should be possible to find a nice, quality gift for a reasonable price if you’re willing to look around for it. Another blessing of this generous, loving aspect is it makes relationships of kinds run more smoothly.
Most of the activity takes place Christmas Day when we have the Cancer Full Moon and Uranus stationing direct at 16° 33 Aries. The same themes from the solstice are present on this Full Moon with earth and water the dominate elements. Where we choose to focus our intent matters and I would suggest going with love, peace and joy.
The week starts with a happy Taurus Moon welcoming the Sun to Capricorn and a lovely Grand Trine in earth (Taurus Moon, Mercury in Capricorn and Jupiter in Virgo). Break out hot toddies and the Christmas cookies to serve to friends and family. One of the beauties of the Taurus Moon is her willingness to be entirely present and engaged in the here and now. Sometimes that is exactly what is needed and what we can look forward to on Monday and Tuesday.
The Moon dances into airy Gemini late Tuesday. Gemini does not connect well with Capricorn because they have very different priorities. Capricorn sees Gemini as frivolous and Gemini returns the favor calling Capricorn a workaholic. The brighter moments come late Wednesday evening and midday on Thursday when the Gemini Moon meets up with Uranus in Aries and Mars in Libra respectively. It will be a subdued Gemini Moon this month.
We wake up Christmas morning and find the Moon back in her home sign of Cancer. Celebrate this special holiday with your family, whether those folks are related to you by blood or affection or both. The definition of family is surprisingly elastic you know. This is the day the Moon is full in Cancer and when Uranus in Aries goes direct.
Saturday is another very good day to spend with those closest to you with a nicely aspected Cancer Moon willing to spread the Christmas cheer around some more.
On Sunday the Moon has shifted into expansive Leo and by that afternoon, the Leo Moon becomes the apex of a Yod with the Capricorn Sun sextile Neptune as the base. Even though that sextile won’t be exact until early on December 29, it is still close enough for jazz on Sunday. Peace and civility are the order of day, so keep the volume down please.
It won’t take long to realize the Sagittarius party is over for the year and that Capricorn has a different set of priorities to discuss. Go with simple, traditional solutions that use existing resources to the best advantage. One rule Capricorn is very fond of is only spending money you already have in order to avoid going into debt. Those who love us are usually happiest with quality time rather than expensive gifts, and love is best when shared freely. Happy Holidays to all!
We reach one of the major turning points of the year on Monday, December 21, the Winter Solstice (or summer if you live in the southern hemisphere). Here in the cold north, it marks the time when the days begin to grow longer once more though it will be Imbolc (February 1) before the difference is truly evident.
The solstice chart sets the tone for the next six months and this year we are blessed with a magical Kite Pattern which includes a Grand Trine in earth – Jupiter in Virgo, Mercury in Capricorn and the Taurus Moon with Venus in Scorpio completing the Kite. It is the Taurus Moon who is the main focal point and the outlet for all the energy generated by the other planets. Kites are much more vibrant and active than Grand Trines who calmly spin around in place, all smug and pleased with themselves.
The placid, nurturing Taurus Moon gains importance because it is the “arrow” planet of the Kite Pattern. The Moon is exalted in Taurus and as such is in the perfect position to share Jupiter’s natural generosity, Mercury in Capricorn’s clear sighted message and all the passionate, healing love Venus in Scorpio is capable of. All we have to do is open our hearts and minds to the possibility a better way of living is possible. We’re talking practical, pragmatic earth signs here who are completely engaged with the real world, and who have the know-how needed to manifest our dreams.
It is Mercury in Capricorn who acts as the intermediary for the harsh Uranus-Pluto square and the rest of the chart. This is a natural role for Mercury who traveled between our world and the Underworld. Mercury conjoins Pluto and squares Uranus in Aries, an aspect that usually leads seriously nasty verbal confrontations where all sorts of unpleasant secrets are abruptly revealed in order to cause pain. This time the other planets in the Kite Pattern are on hand to drain away the anger and resentment which in turn brings true healing.
Mercury is tightly conjoined Pallas in Capricorn who is a genius at setting priorities, allowing for maximum results with little energy wasted. This is a great resource for those who are considering setting up a new business or perhaps reinventing an existing one.
The square between Saturn in Sagittarius and Neptune in Pisces is beginning to wane now, giving us a break from its oddities until next June. Mars in Libra is semi-sextile Venus in Scorpio and since those two are in mutual reception, this brings out the best in both of them.
We have a real choice this time in how we handle what the Uranus-Pluto square brings to the surface over the coming months. Please choose love, kindness, tolerance, peace and joy. Make the world a better place and allow creativity to flourish for all who share it. Namaste.
We are blessed with a Grand Trine in earth today – Taurus Moon, Jupiter in Virgo and Pluto in Capricorn. This will help keep our feet firmly planted in reality and help counterbalance the Libra Sun-Mercury inconjunct Neptune in Pisces. It is possible to avoid harsh truths up to a point with Neptune singing in your mind but not forever. Better to take a deep breath and deal with those right from the get go. If you’re feeling down about all this, remember the Taurus Moon’s favorite antidote . . . good eats!!
We might still be feeling the occasional upset in our lives due to last weekend’s lunar eclipse and Pluto stationing direct. With the Libra Sun and North Node involved, it is very likely related to a relationship of some type. For me it has to do with family (Pluto is currently wearing away at my Libra Moon). Those relationships are usually the longest lasting ones we have and consequently are painful to sever, however irreconcilable differences are irreconcilable differences no matter the people involved.
This is one of the most magical, powerful lunations of the year in my opinion and at 16° 01′ Scorpio on 5 May 2012, 08:35 PM PDT this Full Moon is no exception. Even though Earth always conjoins the Moon when it is full, if Earth is the ruler of Taurus it makes this a very special lunation indeed.
There is nothing ephemeral about the Full Moon in Scorpio. It is very real, passionate and deeply involved with life in the most essential ways – birth, death and regeneration. The old feminine archetypes rule and we celebrate the mysteries whose origins are lost in time. I love thinking about Earth, or Gaia, conjoining the Moon, bringing to mind the power of being able to create new life. This is the perfect time to pay homage to our Mother and acknowledge our unending debt of gratitude to her. And to remember why it is not a good idea to cross Her . . .
Pluto, Scorpio’s ruler, is part of an amazing Grand Kite pattern along with Mars in Virgo and Ceres in Taurus. Chiron in Pisces is the planet opposing Mars in Virgo, sextile Pluto and Ceres making this a Grand Kite. Grand Kites have a bit more punch than Grand Trines because of the opposition. Mars in Virgo is the “arrow” and the focal point. In many ways, this is the perfect pattern to help us delve into our inner beings to take a long look at our expectations and seek out the flaws in our belief system (Chiron). Ceres will be there to provide a nurturing touch and help us from getting too discouraged. Forgiveness is a huge part of any healing process as is the need to remain as non-judgmental as possible. Pluto both fuels the need to dig deep and the knife to open old wounds, allowing them to drain. Mars in Virgo is very well suited to going over the details but since it is also exactly inconjunct Uranus in Aries, it will be less patient than usual. Go easy on the criticism – both of yourself and others.
For those who have struggled getting motivated due to the Mars-Neptune opposition in play over the past couple of weeks, it is finally beginning to wane. From here forward this energy sapping opposition will be history!
On the fire and air side are Mercury in Aries, Venus in Gemini and Saturn in Libra. Mercury has Saturn opposing it and Venus sextile to it, helping us find the tactful thing to say to our nearest and dearest. Jupiter in Taurus is semi-sextile both Mercury and Venus, so ‘over the top’ statements and gestures are likely. For those who prefer to keep things light and cheerful, these are the planets making that possible.
There is something for everyone on this wonderful lunation. If you are of a mind to go deep within and meditate on who you are and your place in the greater scheme of Life, this is an excellent time to do so. If your preference is to enjoy the beauties of the season and refresh your spirit in the process, go for it. Tolerance and acceptance of diversity is never out of season or out of style.
On a personal note: This is a sixth house-twelfth house lunation for me and consequently I usually end up dwelling on whether or not I’m putting enough into being of service to others. With my natal Mercury and Jupiter catching the most aspects, I’m sure more “stuff” will well up out of the depths to be processed too. Who knows what that will inspire!
The Sun, Jupiter and Ceres in Taurus are all in my sixth house these days nagging at me about getting out and working in the garden. They insist it will be good for me to get some fresh air and sunshine! *grin*
I was going to write a lighthearted article about Taurus and gardening but instead I find myself writing about Pluto once more probably due to Mercury squaring Pluto this morning and this week’s Grand Trine with Pluto in Capricorn, Mars in Virgo and the Sun in Taurus.
That is one sweet Grand Trine in earth! It demonstrates all the wonderful possibilities of the three earth signs working together. Taurus is naturally good at being productive; Virgo acts as both quality control and the middle man with Capricorn overseeing the whole operation. Whilst this may not be the speediest team, it can be extremely efficient and dependable.
The trickiest element of the three is Pluto in Capricorn because one thing Pluto forces us to do eventually is face reality whether we want to or not and Pluto in Capricorn is going to continue to reveal those instances of extremely bad management practices. If you have been very lucky, you’ve worked for at least one really good boss who was effective without being offensive and overbearing. Good leadership leads to win-win scenarios with everyone from the top down feeling like they are a valued member of the company . . . thus increasing productivity.
If you are undergoing one of Pluto’s gentle transits to your personal planets or Angles, you know he doesn’t let up until you’ve finally acknowledged the futility of ignoring what he wants you to learn about yourself. Pluto is always about power no matter what sign he is in and he always demands nothing less than total honesty. Misuse of power and authority are what he will be going after in Capricorn. He is in the process of teaching lessons in humility to those individuals who have done exactly that. Remember how high Capricorn Tiger Woods was flying not all that long ago or those Secret Service men whose arrogance and pride contributed to their downfall. Yeah . . . go Pluto!
Whilst most of us have horror stories about the boss from Hell, I would love to hear about the really good ones and what you felt they did/do right. Now more than ever, we need to focus on the positive side of Pluto in Capricorn. After all, the first exact square from Uranus in Aries is right around the corner.
