Week of December 28, 2015

What distinguishes this week, among other things, is all the planets are direct for a brief moment in time. Uranus in Aries stationed direct on Christmas Day and Mercury won’t go retrograde until January 5. Something else rather unusual about it is there are three planets changing sign this week: Venus leaps into fiery Sagittarius, Mercury leave earthy Capricorn for cool Aquarius while Mars gains strength and purpose when he leaves Libra for Scorpio.

There are only two major aspects occurring and both happen on Tuesday, December 29. The Capricorn Sun is sextile Neptune in Pisces while Mercury in Capricorn makes a combative square to Mars in Libra. That ought to set up some cognitive dissonance in the atmosphere between those who embrace peaceful solutions and those who argue for the sake of argument. For those with personal planets between 6° – 8° in water and earth signs, the Sun-Neptune sextile is a real blessing, and those who have personal planets from 26° – 28° in the cardinal, the Mercury-Mars square will be a pain. Hopefully the storms will blow over quickly and traces of the peace linger.

Venus enjoys being in playful, light-hearted Sagittarius, and she invites the rest of us to relax and let our hair down for awhile. She has a bright smile for everyone she meets and prefers to play the field. Scorpio takes everything so seriously and that wears on gentle Venus who wants people to relax, have some fun and enjoy the pleasures life has to offer. We will wake up Wednesday to this pleasant Venus.

Sunday Mars moves into Scorpio, gaining purpose, focus and a great deal of tenacity. Mars is often considered the co-ruler of Scorpio along with Pluto. He is always happy to arrive home there after spending time in Libra. Libra’s need to look at all sides of an issue before committing to a course of action frustrates Mars who prefers to just get on with it!

Even though Mercury transitions into Aquarius on Friday, it will only be there for a week before returning to Capricorn. This will be the first of three Mercury retrogrades in 2016 and all of them will be in the earth signs. One thing to watch out for this week and next is the impact of Mercury squaring Mars, first in cardinal signs (Libra-Capricorn) and then in the fixed signs (Scorpio-Aquarius). Finding a way to resolve our differences could take some time if those get entrenched under the influence of the fixed square January 5 . . . yes, the day when Mercury stations retrograde at 1° Aquarius. The final square between Mercury in Aquarius and Mars in Scorpio takes place March 4 at 29°.

On Monday the Leo Moon benefits from a trine to Uranus in Aries which can ignite our creativity and enthusiasm for trying something new. Still it would be wise to treat those who prefer a more traditional approach with respect.

Tuesday mixed messages bounce around all over the place because that’s the day the Cappy Sun is sextile Neptune and Mercury squares Mars. In the Leo Moon’s case, she is sextile Mars in Libra and then square Venus in Scorpio first thing in the morning. By mid-morning the Moon leaves fiery Leo for earthy Virgo who is much more in tune with the rest of the current planets.

Wednesday and Thursday are generally far more laid back and the best days this week to handle the small but important details. Plan accordingly. Thursday is New Year’s Eve and for those who stay up to see the New Year in will find the late night party atmosphere is much more convivial because the Moon dances into social Libra around midnight.

New Year’s Day the Libra Moon is generally in a decent mood thanks to an early morning sextile to Venus newly arrived in Sagittarius. However the mood becomes more contentious overnight when she squares the Cappy Sun and triggers the Uranus-Pluto square early Saturday morning. The opposition to Uranus in Aries is the last aspect she makes before going void-of-course for just over twenty four hours. If tempers subside by evening, going out to play Saturday night might be fine.

Mid-day Sunday finds the Moon in reserved Scorpio and the first thing she does is conjoin Mars in Scorpio before squaring Mercury in Aquarius in the afternoon. Be very, very careful about speaking out of turn and making others angry. Scorpio does not always reveal how deep their anger runs and they are very good at waiting patiently to implement their revenge. Fire signs often forget this because their anger flares quickly and dies as fast, so they seldom see the Scorpio knife coming.

With all the transitions taking place this week, it would be wise idea to borrow Capricorn’s systematic approach to problem solving and pacing. Take each day as it comes and walk through it one step at a time. We start off the week with earth and water in ascendance and end up the week much the same with moments in between when fire and air have their moment in the sun. Steady as she goes.

Note: Timing is averaged for EDT to PDT.

Libra Weekly Horoscopes for September 8, 2014

summer annuals 511

Leading off the week is the Full Moon in Pisces. The Moon is closely conjunct Chiron in Pisces and one of the messages it brings is about self-healing. All those who give selflessly and nurture others often forget they need to take time to nurture themselves. Loving and caring for ourselves needs to take top priority, not be treated as an afterthought.

On Monday, Uranus in Aries will be causing the Virgo Sun fits via an inconjunct because it has no respect for Virgo’s carefully thought out schedules. However this influence will pass fairly quickly and Saturn in Scorpio comes around on Thursday to help us get our daily routines back in place in order to maintain our health and well being. Those who have personal planets from 14° to 16° in the cardinal signs are probably in need of a good stress reduction program thanks to Uranus running through and disturbing the status quo.

Mercury, Virgo’s ruler, has the most attention this week and much of it is not exactly easy to handle. Mercury is in Libra now and vulnerable to being thrown off balance . . . something Pluto in Capricorn will do on Tuesday and Uranus in Aries on Saturday. Poor Mercury doesn’t stand a chance against either of those two planets, so our decision making ability may be impacted on those days. Watch out for controlling people demanding everything their way and those erratic types who run off leaving someone else to pick up the pieces. Jupiter in Leo will offer Mercury support on Wednesday but may only make matters worse because his tendency to exaggerate may distort the facts. Take extra care to be honest, direct and clear when discussing anything of importance this week. Err on the side of fairness!

Two bright spots this week involve the other two personal planets, Venus and Mars. Venus in Virgo goes dancing with Neptune in Pisces on Wednesday, kindling a spirit of romance in this earthy Venus. Over the weekend, Venus will be trine Pluto in Capricorn, bringing opportunities to awaken passion by exploring our sensual side.

I know plenty of people who have not particularly enjoyed Mars in Scorpio and it has been quite intense at times what with Mars conjoining Saturn and squaring the Leo planets. However we can put all that behind us when Mars breaks out into fiery Sagittarius on Saturday. The Scorpio-Sagittarius transition is one of the more dramatic ones. Mars in Scorpio makes no more aspects on its way out this week so perhaps we may finally be able to experience the intrinsic power of this Mars without wincing.

If we can remember to be tactful and kind in our communications this week, it is an excellent time to handle the day to day details in our busy lives. Staying firmly focused in the here and now is the best approach unless you are one of the lucky ones busy falling in love!

If you know your Rising sign, please read the horoscope for it too. 😀

Letting your impatience get the best of you when talking to your partner this week, Aries, could end very badly. Yes, your work is demanding and continues to absorb a great deal of your time and energy but that’s no excuse for being abrupt. Blow off steam over the weekend by doing something very physical.

Other people’s dramas probably won’t affect you much, Taurus, because all is well in your little corner of the world. It should be easy for you to find time to relax and enjoy an evening out with your loved one. By the way, you may also come across an excellent investment opportunity.

Be very, very careful when promoting your brilliant ideas this week, Gemini, because it could be all too easy for you to end up being overly dramatic and that may not go over well with some parties. Shoot for elegance, simplicity and style in your presentations. Sunday looks like the best day for social activities.

A dicey situation may crop up in a very public way for you this week, Cancer, and catch you off guard. Your charming delivery has been working quite well for you recently and probably will save the day again. Look for a renewed interest in stepping up your health and exercise routine starting this weekend.

Take extra care before speaking now, Leo, or you could end up saying something you may regret later. You might come across far more forcefully than you realize early in the week and be too abrupt in expressing your thoughts later on. As I said . . . think carefully before opening your mouth!!

Monday may be an interesting day for you, Virgo, but once the dust settles the rest of the week looks favorable. Remember to smile and be tactful if you need to let someone know they’ve been behaving like an idiot. If you have ideas for home improvements, the energy to tackle those emerges this weekend.

You are usually the soul of tact and diplomacy, Libra, but that might not be the case at this time. If the occasion calls for speaking forcefully and to the point, you may surprise yourself by doing just that. If you need to sell an idea, do so midweek and anyone bugging you on the weekend may get an earful!

You continue to be a force to be reckoned with, Scorpio, and anyone foolish enough to get in your way may live to regret it. Take advantage of networking options midweek to expand your reach. After this week, you may find yourself turning your attention to improving your cash flow.

This is a good time to burnish your public image, Sagittarius, and if you need to spend some money to do so, it could work out well for you. Where you may get a lot of mixed messages coming in this week is from your circle of friends. Take your time sorting those out. Burst of energy coming your way soon!

If you have had some travel plans in the works, Capricorn, those could come together this week. One area where you may get conflicting messages is at work. Striking the right tone is important and you might come across too strong early in the week and too impatient later on. Shoot for respectful but firm.

You are another, Aquarius, who may benefit from doing a serious job of mentally editing what you say before you speak this week. Otherwise you may do yourself more harm than good. Your ability to think on your feet is quite good so you can do this! Practice patience.

Pisces, other people may look to you for kindness and sympathy this week, something you are usually good at delivering. For the most part all you might have to do is be an active listener . . . something many people do not do well. Prepare yourself for more activity at work in the coming weeks.

Full Moon in Pisces, September 8, 2014

Pisces’s ability to emphasize and feel compassion will be on display on this Full Moon at 16° 19′ Pisces, September 8, 2014 06:39 PM PDT due to the Moon conjoining Chiron and a sweet Venus-Neptune opposition. When Virgo know-how combines with Pisces compassion, healing occurs.

With mutable water (Pisces) dominating the lunation chart, people may be more willing to find a way to avoid outright confrontation, a change from recent lunations when fixed water (Scorpio) created the desire to stand and fight. Another factor is Mercury in agreeable Libra who is sensitive and socially aware. This doesn’t mean folks have changed their minds but rather that they may be tired of getting involved in endless disagreements with no resolution. The end result is more peace and quiet which some of us will happily take!

The luminaries are caught up in a subtle power struggle with Saturn in Scorpio supporting them and Uranus in Aries challenging them. Brash, forthright Aries has little use for what it sees as Virgo nit picking and Pisces waffling. It is only interested to getting the show on the road as expediently as possible. In my opinion, Saturn in Scorpio insisting on a slow, steady pace is a definite plus. Accidents happen when we get in too big a hurry and Saturn knows it. Yes, there will be frustration and people stomping around being extremely impatient but that’s OK. Pacing and priorities are what counts. By the way, a waxing trine between Uranus in Aries and Jupiter in Leo could make increase this tendency to want to jump ahead too quickly. All of this activity swirls around 15° to 18° degrees and if you have personal planets at those degrees, you may get caught up in this whirlpool.

Mercury in Libra is another in an unenviable position. It has the backing of Jupiter in Leo but is square to Pluto in Capricorn. My feeling is Mercury will go all Libra and ask for more time rather than make a decision on the spot. Pluto in Capricorn is likely to spout rules and regulations in order to maintain control while Jupiter in Leo is doing its high-powered salesman bit. Poor Mercury in Libra will probably end up looking like a deer caught in the headlights. The workaround here is to do your homework as far as the practicalities go before attempting to promote your ideas, and go with a soft sell rather than a hard sell approach. Thankfully the inconjunct between Jupiter and Pluto is gradually waning in intensity . . . having those two battling it out can get noisy.

Venus is now in Virgo and the opposition to Neptune in Pisces brings out the romantic side of this rather conventional Venus. Demonstrate your love and affection by making dinner or offering to clean the house. Nothing like a sparkling clean home to put this Venus in the mood for love!

For those of you who are not fans of Mars in Scorpio, it is almost to the end of its journey through the powerful water sign. It enters fiery Sagittarius on September 13 and heads out the door without a backward glance. Mars is unaspected on the Full Moon and remains unencumbered for the rest of its stay in Scorpio. Those who have planets from 25° to 29° Scorpio will benefit the most from a nice rush of energy.

Something to contemplate on this lovely Pisces Full Moon is the quiet persistence of water. Water can carve out deep canyons and wash away tons of sand all while remaining completely fluid and adaptable. It seeps in through the tiniest cracks and quenches our thirst on hot days. Love is much the same . . . it can heal the most profound wounds if our hearts are open. Embrace your loved ones and go out of your way to treat everyone with kindness and respect. That isn’t too much to ask, is it?

On a personal note: This time the lunar axis aligns with my Virgo Midheaven and Pisces Imum Coli. Mercury in Libra conjoins my natal Neptune and Mars in Scorpio is triumphantly stomping through my first house. Looks like I have an opportunity to be on the side of the angels . . . better brush off my halo and smile real purty! It is “pay it forward” time!

Not all is sweetness and light since Uranus in Aries is sitting exactly opposite my Libra Moon for most of this month. Each day is an adventure and I can hardly wait for it to be over. Exhausting at times and it has been this way since April.

Fixed Mode – Rock and a Hard Place

The dynamic drive of having cardinal signs ruling the sky is now history and adjusting to the difference is causing many of us to feel a great deal of frustration. Mercury left cardinal Cancer for fixed Leo on July 31 and we’ll start to notice this even more. Mercury in Leo is not shy about airing opinions after all and when it conjoins Mr. Big Mouth himself, Jupiter in Leo, over the weekend better grab some earplugs.

We typically see shorter periods of time when one mode dominates due to a concentration of the faster moving planets in one sign but it is the planets from Jupiter on out that create the real backdrop. We had become accustomed to a strongly cardinal feel for the first half of this year because Mars spent seven months in Libra. Since Jupiter was in Cancer, Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn, we were over-supplied with cardinal energy and adrenaline addicts everywhere LOVED it! Now we need to readjust to a different pace instead of charging ahead, guns blazing, we need to slow down and take our time!

Until the inconjunct between Saturn in Scorpio and Uranus in Aries finally starts to separate on August 10, it will continue to wear on those who have personal planets/Ascendant in either cardinal signs or fixed signs from 15° to 17°. This aspect has Saturn putting on the brakes while Uranus frantically attempts to gain its freedom. I doubt if there are any winners in this instance . . . just plenty of discomfort. The Leo planets will start showing up in support of Uranus in Aries over the next month, intensifying this battle because Saturn in Scorpio will be squaring those planets at the same time. This situation may seriously drain reserves and may be very hard on immune systems. If you are dealing with this transit, make sure to stay with a healthy routine which includes plenty of rest.

The time we spend in the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius) allow us to consolidate, rest up, reevaluate and prepare for our next leap ahead. For the next while Leo is the major influence with Mars and Saturn in Scorpio keeping it in line. After all the pushing and shoving to get ahead, there are plenty of loose ends to tidy up. Time to slow down, look around and get busy!

New Moon in Leo, July 26, 2014

Leo New Moon

Bring on the fireworks and celebrate this magnificent New Moon at 03° 52′ Leo on 26 July 2014, 03:42 PM PDT! Jupiter in Leo sits smugly side by side with the luminaries adding to the general gloriousness of the occasion . . . at least according to him. Other may take exception with this attitude including Mars in cynical Scorpio.

To key to understanding the inner dynamics to this New Moon is the fact the chart is predominately fixed water, or Scorpio. One of Scorpio’s missions in life is to keep Leo’s arrogance in check. Which makes sense once we note Scorpio is on the cusp of the fourth house when Leo is on the first in an equal house system. The fourth house represents the parents (the mother in particular) to the first house. And who knows how to push our buttons better than mom?

Scorpio is one of the signs Mars is at home in and it shows. This is a highly effective Mars who knows how to bide his time with incredible tenacity. Like Mars in Capricorn, Mars in Scorpio is very good at delayed gratification. Unless Mars in Scorpio is afflicted in a natal chart, it usually bestows strength and endurance plus a natural dexterity. All of which comes in handy if one is a surgeon . . . a favorite Scorpio profession.

The Venus in Cancer-Pluto in Capricorn opposition adds yet another layer of Scorpionic influence. Emotions are what drive this combination and with Pluto present, controlling behaviors are too. Obsession, jealousy and the desire to dominate can make our love lives a living hell if we are not careful.

There is nothing quite like adding Neptune in Pisces to the scene to add an uneasy combination of glamour and illusion. Or should I mention the fact that glamour is often all about creating an illusion? In any case, Neptune is inconjunct the New Moon-Jupiter conjunction in Leo and we might as well plan on plenty of people presenting themselves as larger than life with as much pomp and circumstance as possible. While this can be highly entertaining, accepting everything at face value is a sure way to end up feeling very disillusioned in short order. A little fairy dust can be fun but a lot can leave bitterness and resentment behind.

Helping bring some reality to the situation is Saturn in Scorpio. It is trine to Mercury in Cancer and if we carefully observe the non-verbal ways people are communicating we might come closer to understanding what is actually going on.

The waning inconjunct between Saturn and Uranus in Aries is still in effect on the New Moon, continuing to create uncomfortable feelings and awkward situations. Saturn counsels adopting a “wait and see” attitude rather than acting on impulse, and in this instance, I’d go with Saturn. He is in a better position to know what is really happening.

Our best option on this Leo New Moon is to focus on all the wonderful, positive attributes of Leo. Its ability to play with joy and enthusiasm will be welcome guests at any gathering. Leave feelings of superiority and the need to play games of one-upmanship far behind, and embrace life with love and laughter.

On a personal note: The closest aspect the New Moon-Jupiter in Leo makes to my chart is a trine to my first house Venus in Sagittarius . . . yeah, baby, let the good times roll!! And there is a trine from Mercury in Cancer to my natal Mars-Mercury conjunction in Scorpio. This makes my Libra self very happy because it will be far easier to find the right thing to say to make others feel better about themselves.

Mars in Scorpio is hovering on the cusp of my twelfth house, having just conjoined my Sun and will soon conjoin my natal Jupiter in Scorpio. Excellent for accomplishing a great deal quietly behind the scenes . . . just my style!
