Observations: Those Outer Planet Stations wear us down

© Stephanie Pui-Mun Law

Yesterday Pluto in Capricorn stationed retrograde and had already spent roughly a month and a half at 9°. When the Outer Planets – Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto – slow to station either retrograde or direct, they end up sitting in one place for anywhere from six weeks to three months. This can feel like someone’s drilling a hole in your psyche . . . sloooowly and painfully.

Now the inner planets spend far less time on one degree ranging from a week for Mercury to two weeks for Venus and Mars. Jupiter, Mr. In Between, hovers on the same degree for about a month. However when we hit Saturn the length of time begins to stretch out as I know from earlier this year when Saturn spent seven weeks at 29° Libra. Both Uranus and Neptune take about a two month pause and the king of the slow pokes, Pluto, can spend up to three months idling in neutral.

As a general rule, we notice planetary stations the most when they exactly conjoin one of our personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars) or the Angles (Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven and Imum Coli). Squares to those same degree points also get our attention. Sextiles and trines usually drift on by because those make our lives run more smoothly. The impact of inconjuncts and semi-sextiles varies and depends on the aspects to the natal planet. Obviously if the planet is already under stress from hard aspects, you’ll feel the transit more keenly.

If you have an aptitude for the scholarly side of studying astrological transits in great detail as well as the interest (which I don’t . . .), then I highly recommend Bernadette Brady’s book - Predictive Astrology: The Eagle and the Lark She goes into great detail about how to determine the effect transits will have. All those little graphs and picky details drive me crazy . . . all I want is an outline to work within. *grin* Besides, doing that kind of in depth work for clients as an astrologer is not cost effective unless one can demand outrageous amounts of money.

All transits are learning experiences and transits from a stationing planet can be considered focused, intensive learning experiences. They give us plenty of time to decide how we want to deal with a certain facet of our lives or our selves. Saturn and Pluto transits can be very sobering, Uranus transits almost always force us out of our comfort zone and Neptune does what he does best . . . leave us wondering what the heck is going on.

F.Y.I:
Mars is stationing direct at 3° Virgo on 13 April
Pluto stationed Rx at 9° Capricorn 10 April
Venus will station Rx at 23° Gemini on 15 May & direct at 7° Gemini on 27 June
Neptune will station Rx at 3° Pisces on 4 June
Saturn will station direct at 22° Libra on 25 June
Uranus will station Rx at 8° Aries on 13 July with Mercury stationing Rx at 12° Leo on
14 July . . . fun!!

Libra Weekly Horoscopes for April 9, 2012

© Diane Lang

The loud cheering you’ll hear next weekend will be me celebrating Mars FINALLY turning direct! (Though I have to say until Mercury went retrograde this was a pretty mild mannered Mars Retrograde around here.) We’ll begin to see doors opening and the gradual return of forward momentum over the next few weeks as the red planet picks up speed.

Pluto in Capricorn is headed in the other direction for the next five months starting on April 10, 2012. What I see as the biggest factor with a Pluto station is the length of time spent at a particular degree. In this instance Pluto will spend over three months, from late February through May at 9 degrees. He does have a way of getting his message across, doesn’t he? If you have planets or Angles at 9 degrees in the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) you are probably aware of this.

Venus in Gemini starts out the week all bright and shiny sextile to her partner in crime, Uranus in Aries. These two are definitely up to something fun, exciting and innovative . . . a good way to start the week. By Thursday, the shine begins to wear off due to touchy feelings and maybe some jealousy issues arising in relationships. Thoughtful, kind behaviors will help prevent too much damage. Avoid snappy comebacks and “witty” remarks because chances are they won’t be received well.

These days the last planet the Sun will aspect before changing signs is Saturn in Libra. On Sunday, the Sun will oppose Saturn in Libra as it prepares to close out its stay in Aries. Saturn encourages a more thoughtful approach and with the Sun about to enter placid Taurus, putting the brakes on Aries impulsiveness might be a good thing.

Mars at a virtual standstill all week is probably going amp up the frustration factor and even though there will be bright spots here and there, we will still need to practice using our indoor voices and best manners in our interactions with others. Yelling may feel good but probably won’t make anything move any faster. Sorry ‘bout that . . .

Monday and Tuesday are probably your best days this week, Aries, so if you need to get things done do it then. You may feel like all you are doing running in place by the weekend. It might be better to take a time out rather than pushing ahead.

Clever ideas about ways to improve your income may come to mind early in the week, Taurus. Whether or not you will be able to capitalize on them any time soon is another matter. Good thing patience is your long suit, isn’t it.

You are starting to feel like your mind is beginning to function at peak efficiency once more, Gemini . . . something I’m betting your friends and family will be very grateful for. Where you may need to exercise patience later in the week is at home.

Your best bet to jump start any career moves comes on Monday and Tuesday, Cancer, when luck is on your side. Please monitor your feelings of anger and disappoint later in the week as those can interfere with your ability to think clearly and objectively.

About the time you think you have an exciting prospect for travel and expanding your horizons, Leo, you might run into a few setbacks . . . as in not getting some income you had been counting on. Count to ten several times if necessary, OK?

Other than some bright spots regarding career moves early in the week, Virgo, you may as well resign yourself to feeling frustrated and thwarted. This situation will begin to ease up after this week and life will begin to look a little brighter.

Like most everyone else, Monday and Tuesday are your best days this week too, Libra. You will also be the most susceptible to having your feelings bruised by insensitive types the last half of the week. Take it one day at a time for now.

Opportunities to rework your schedule and your relationship with your coworkers are possible now, Scorpio. Where you might experience more frustration and blockages is in your dealings with your peers. Don’t bite anyone’s head off because they don’t agree with you . . .

Even if you start off the week in a good mood, ready to take the world by storm, Sagittarius, don’t be surprised if your mood deteriorates as the week goes on. Tempers will be short in the work place and your boss on the grouchy side. Drat.

If you need to discuss anything of importance with your coworkers, Capricorn, best get that out of the way first thing. Pressing them to accommodate you later on might not go so well. Travel plans might not work out well either. Next week is better . . .

You may be able to come up with very creative solutions early in the week, Aquarius, so make sure you jot down all the important details. If you need to meet with your accountant or money manager this week, you may not get the answers you need right away.

Pisces, you might need every scrap of patience you have when dealing with your partner (business or personal) this week. They will be short tempered and reluctant to take on anything more but don’t worry, they’ll start to come around soon.

If you know your Rising sign, read the horoscope for it too. :D

Observations: Libra Full Moon Musings

© Diane Lang

In the days leading up to this Full Moon in Libra, I’ve had numerous reminders of classic Libra behaviors in regards to their partners. We tend to drop whatever we’re doing in response to our partner’s needs/requests/demands. Being married to a very Aries Aries (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Jupiter and Ascendant in Aries) this is the time of year he tends to take up more than his share of the oxygen in the room . . . especially now Uranus is in Aries and conjoining his Sun.

Aries is a natural prioritizer and my husband excels in this area, so if he says you need to transplant the cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower seedlings, I do. We also picked four more adorable baby chicks and getting them set up in their new home on our front porch took up more time.

The first part of the week was also taken up too many trips to town, hoping the mechanics had completed the work on my pickup. The morning after Mercury FINALLY turned direct, we made one last trip to collect both my pickup and my baby chicks. *whew*

Now I’m attempting to catch up with my own loose ends and restore my sense of balance. Whilst I’m doing that I would like to recommend reading:

Observations: Venus’s Long Stay in Gemini

We’re due for another Venus Retrograde, this time in Gemini. Venus entered Gemini on Tuesday, April 3 and will not move into Cancer until August 7. She will station retrograde on May 15 at 23° Gemini and travel back to 7° Gemini before stationing direct on June 27. For those who enjoy reading geeky astrological information, Richard Nolle has a great post on Venus Max.

The aspects Venus makes to the other slower moving planets help set the tone for her stay in Gemini. The first major aspect she makes on Thursday, April 5, is a square to Neptune in Pisces, softening the romantic focus and leading us to make some rather foolish choices. We’ll probably start regretting those on the weekend when Venus makes the first of two squares to Mars in Virgo (the second is on June 4). Venus-Mars squares make for notably bad timing between lovers, setting the stage for quarrels.

If you are looking for a little excitement and a good creative jolt, Venus will be sextile to innovative Uranus in Aries a couple of times, once on April 9 and again on June 20. June 20 also happens to be the Summer Solstice and during the time when Uranus in Aries is exactly square Pluto in Capricorn . . . which means Venus will be inconjunct Pluto. Throw in a little obsession to the mix and things might get REALLY interesting!

Those times when Venus is slowing to station both retrograde and direct are particularly important. Fortunately for us she will be trine stabilizing Saturn in Libra when she stations retrograde and that will help keep us on the straight and narrow. For those planning weddings in late May and June, this could prove a real blessing because there will be few unpleasant surprises. When Venus is stationing direct, she will have Uranus in Aries escorting her, again to our benefit if we have innovative, creative projects to launch. Think how much more challenging these stations could be with squares to Mars or Neptune!!

I have a healthy respect for Venus Retrogrades though they are usually less annoying than Mercury or Mars. As a Libra Sun person, I have found it worthwhile to pay attention to what lovely Venus is up to and have found the house she makes her extended stay in can be important. When she was retrograde in my fifth house a few years ago I devoted a great deal of time and energy to a creative project only to have nothing come from it except for what I learned from the experience. It was supposed to have been a good money maker (Venus is associated with personal income).

Those with planets in the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) will be the most affected by this Venus Retrograde. Check to see what house Gemini falls in your chart to determine the area of your life Venus will helping you learn more about. Here’s to making the best of this experience!

Libra Weekly Horoscopes for April 2, 2012

© Diane Lang

Main events this week include Venus leaving sensual Taurus for breezy Gemini on Tuesday, Mercury stationing direct on Wednesday and the Full Moon in Libra on Friday.

Do I hear cheering in the background for Mercury’s turnaround? I know I’m past ready for this retrograde to be over and am waiting impatiently for Mars in Virgo to follow suit on 13 April . . . which happens to be a Friday. *grin* Even though it will take Mercury a week to get back up to speed it will still be a relief to have the little trickster going forward.

These days when the faster moving bodies (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus & Mars) prepare to change signs, the last planet they aspect is Saturn in Libra and the first one after changing signs is Neptune in Pisces. Venus in Taurus was inconjunct Saturn on Saturday and will square Neptune on Thursday this coming week. This creates a cycle of falling head over heels in love and a return to sobriety, sometimes abruptly and sometimes thoughtfully. Venus’s stay in Taurus this past month started off incredibly sweet but ended rather badly. She will have her head in clouds after entering Gemini but this time the odds are better for a good ending.

The coming weekend does not look all that promising for love and romance with Venus squaring a grumpy Mars in Virgo, slowed to a crawl. Unless you are the sort who enjoys making up after fighting with your lover, keep your mouth shut and don’t nag or nitpick.

My personal recommendation for this week is to move and speak with deliberation because moving or speaking too fast increases the likelihood of tripping over one’s feet or tongue. Just saying . . .

I know you have reached or exceeded the limits of your patience, Aries, and you’ll probably decide doing ANYTHING is better than doing nothing. Hey, it may work better for you than for any of the rest of us! Try not to step on any toes.

Disjointed communications with friends and associates are a good possibility this week, Taurus. Good thing you are naturally methodical because that’s exactly the tact to take now. You might find an increased interest in improving your income is next on the agenda.

Brace yourself for interruptions to your work flow this week originating from your boss, Gemini. I know you are an excellent multi-tasker but even your ability to handle distractions will be tested. Watch out for sweet talking types and their flattery . . .

You know, Cancer, the best thing you can do for yourself right now is give yourself permission to enjoy some peace and quiet. The demands of work and family matters are going to be there no matter what but you can shut the door if you wish.

You are a social animal, Leo, and really enjoy spending time with your peers and associates. Even work related gatherings can be fun for you as long as you behave with some decorum. Don’t get too carried away when complimenting your boss.

Whilst your career prospects may begin to brighten now, Virgo, you still need to be patient especially where your partner is concerned. Right now not knowing exactly what is going on could lead to all kinds of unhappy speculations. Just ask . . . OK?

Dealing with coworkers could have you throwing your hands in the air and stomping around cursing, Libra, and we won’t even mention your significant other. Maybe it’s time to consider taking a vacation from your daily grind, preferably somewhere warm, beautiful and calm.

Did your wonderful but spacey lover forget to call you or do something equally off the wall, Scorpio? You may as well shrug it off and see if you can’t work out a way to get together this weekend. Hectic week at work.

There is plenty happening in your life, Sagittarius, though most of your frustrations are related to attempting to balance your boss’s demands with problems on the home front. Go out and have fun with your friends on the weekend to decompress.

You need to be extra careful in your communications with coworkers this week, Capricorn, and get as much in written form as possible just in case you need to explain any screw ups to your boss. Prepare to put in some long hours.

If you are scheduled to get paid this week, Aquarius, make sure everything is in order before you head to the bank. Being careful now may prevent bigger headaches down the road. Besides, it looks like you may have more pleasant things to think about soon.

This might be one of those times, Pisces, when your ability to focus will be non-existent and if you have important commitments, get the most reliable person you know to help remind you. Believe me, your significant other will not let you forget . . .

If you know your Rising sign, read the horoscope for it too. :D
